I put in an eSnipe bid at my absolute maximum and went to bed.
It sold for $256.99, quite a bit higher than my maximum bid.
I'll be investigating sending my own carb to that seller for a
$130 (plus shipping) charge.

Ya know, that seller is really and unknown quantity. You have no real assurance that you are going to get "your" carb back. Sure maybe the numbers before and after might match, but what about what is going on inside. IMO, you'd be better off sending your carb to Dick Paterson. Here's a guy that works exclusively on the GMCMH carb, and has been doing it for over 20yrs. Personally, I would do it myself before I sent it to the $130 rebuilder, but more likely, if I had little or no experience, I'd send it to Dick. JMHO

I also put in a bid. I was the guy that pushed it over $200 right before going to bed. Of course, someone immediately outbid me and I wasn't going to chase after it. I'd still like a real motorhome carb as mine is cobbled together frankenstein. It works well, but and I loved to use it as a spare...

In a thread a year or so ago the market price of a good rebuildable core was generally considered to be $200-250. Don't know what a survey today would determine.

Yeah. That's what I was working off of. Since it's an unknown supplier I figured I'd bid it if it was a rebuildable core and if I got lucky and won it then either a) I got a steal and it worked great b) I paid the low end for a rebuildable core that I could send to Dick or c) I got mostly screwed by someone either selling the wrong thing or selling a busted core. The low end of the rebuildable range was the most I was going to do for those odds... though his 100% satisfaction rating probably makes it worth the almost $300 (including shipping) someone paid.

Dick is a know excellent service provider for all things tune up related to
the GMC. He understands Air/Fuel ratios and advance curves for ignition for
motorhomes probably better than anyone I have run into, including me
(especially me). If you are into plug & play, order your carbs & ignition
from him & be done with it. Top drawer quality is worth what it costs.
Unknown stuff from ebay is like going to the Indian Casinos, spend your
money on the food & walk past the slot machines. The above is one long time
mechanic & retired Vo Tec instructors opinion.

Jim,
IMHO you are 110% correct with what you've noted below! Double Trouble has a
carb and distributor from Dick. When I bought it a PO had fitted a Holley
carb and I noted the top end performance was really poor. I took the carb
off and the secondaries were tiny in comparison to the QJ. I contacted
Michael Bozardt for a good core ($100) and asked him to send it to Dick for
a rebuild ($290). The interesting thing to me was that the distributor
seemed to make a bigger difference in performance than the carb!

Whoops, Posted under wrong subject
Did someone on the list get the carburetor?
I wonder how good the rebuild was compared
to one of Dick P's. $130 for a rebuild compared
to $290.00 is something to consider. Some of
us poor people might have to go with the 1/2
price rebuild even if it isn't top quality. I can't
always support the vendors but I do try.

Charles,
I have had a Dick Paterson rebuild carburetor for some time. It is well worth the price. Dick understands the operation of the GMC better than the average rebuilder. When you put one of his carburetors on, you can really feel the difference. Personally I would never go with anyone else.
