I grew up in St. Charles, IL, in the Fox River Valley, about 40 miles straight west of Chicago. St. Charles is one of the Tri-Cities, the others being Geneva and Batavia. Batavia is/was home to Furnas Electric, maker of electrical and motor controls. One of the kids I graduated with from high school in 1958, Jerry, went to work for Furnas after graduation.
Pat and I go back to "home" every couple of months and have breakfast with about 20 of my classmates and their wives. Jerry, and his wife are usually there. At the breakfast last month, we got to talking about the GMC's and he said he thought he had some old Furnas literature he would look for and send to us. The link below is to the pictures I scanned from what he sent. I have already sent Steve Southworth, in Wisconsin, these pictures, as he owns one of the two GMC's that Furnas owned. A neat bit of history, don't you think?

The interior of our transmode is just a bit different than shown in the Furnas pictures. See our interior shots starting here:

Is ours one of the units 1-3? Or was it one of the coaches shown but was remodeled. I can tell you the lighting shown in the Furnas literature (overhead incandescents) would be marginal at best and with no side window the inside of this transmode is dark. Ours had side-mount 12v and 120 volt florescent fixtures behind an inverted valance and a "chrome" ceiling (Wilsonart metal faced laminate). I wonder what happened to the other 2 transmodes.

Steve,
I'll ask him if he knows next time we have breakfast.
