It is worth only what someone is willing to pay and what amount you are willing to accept.

Brian,
Go here to post photos..

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/

Jim Bounds has a for sale section and also just showed two coaches on his Daily Pose -- $25k and $44k -- and said they were both top coaches. One of the best coaches around recently sold -- asking price was $30k.

Prices have been recovering of late -- but may still not be a good time to sell.

Good luck,
Dennis

A No Reserve auction on eBay would be the best way to find out the true market value. For someone else's coach, of course!

A good starting point would be a professional appraisal. Then you have to
make a decision as to what you will accept based on the appraisal, and
reality.

A pretty nice looking, low miles coach went for under $9000 on eBay last week. Item # 270665734451.
As has been said, market value and real value are two different things. During the height of the gas price spike a nice coach in Florida was given away for $3500.

Real value is what keeps you pouring money into a coach (airplane/boat/sports car). Market value is what makes you slap your forehead afterward!

I will venture a bottom dollar guess. But:

Value depends on the "market" much more than on how much went into the coach.  The market includes location, quality and prices among competing sellers and the psychology of buyers.  A coach went for (as I recall) $2,500 in rural Utah a few weeks ago.  It was in reasonable condition aside from needing tires, battery, and the servicing of systems.

At any one time there are a limited number of buyers willing to fork out cash.  For example, in the past week, 11 bidders have bid up the price of a 1974 GMC in Salt Lake to $1,650. (Ebay # 190470574353) Only 4 of those bidders were willing to pay more than $1,000.  It closes in 6 hours and the reserve has not been met.  It has some paint issues and a cracked block.  Given that it could likely cost upwards from $9,500 to buy it and get it running and looking good, I would say the seller thinks it to be worth more than that ($11,650) amount, but the bidders may include someone with an extra 455 in storage.  Even though economists know price is determined by supply and demand,  I believe that means price is determined by an agreement between a "well informed" and somewhat desperate buyer and a "well informed" and somewhat desperate seller.

If I was in the market for a coach, I would prefer to pay $2,000 for a local coach and put in $9,000 to assure it was presentable (my wife's criteria) and reliable.

As a former professional economist (now an amateur) I suggest that you should not sell a nice running coach for less than $11,000 unless or until you are a distressed/desperate seller.
