Wife just called here at work. Refer is too cold. 30 degrees. We've had this problem in the past. 70's daytime it works great. In the morn if the outside temps drop to low 40's or less the refer is 30-32. Told her to shut it off for awile. Any ideas??? Packed and ready to go. Yesterday it was 70 in Warrenton and 32 in Omaha. Lots cooler today. MH is in the garage but its still cooler. Burrrrrr,,,,,,PL

Fairly common problem but with no clear solution. If it is an older unit, with a two level flame for temp control (one, lower level to keep things going, the thermostat calling for cooling turns it up to a higher level of flame) there is not a lot to be done. The lower level flame is simply activating the cooling cycle at lower outside temps.

Always check the thermostat bulb in the freezer compartment or refrigerator compartment (if you can locate it) to see if it is firmly attached. If not, this problem can result.

If you have a newer unit, with an electronic ignition for the flame, the thermostat bulb (or electronic thermister) may have come loose from the fins where it is normally attached and is not sensing the interior box temp properly.

Since there are so many variations on controls, flame initiation, bulb location etc in the various brands and models one cannot be more specific than that in a general answer to your question.

Yep, what Rob said. I have a new Norcold and it did that. Leon gave me a used gadget that clips on the fins, inside the refer. That fixed mine. But, in the mean time, keep telling the wife to turn it off for a couple of hours. I did that for a year.
Better than not cooling I figured.

Original frig,,,,now on 120v. Will check bulb attachment,,,,thanks. Any body seen any 4" channel laying around????,,,PL

The original refrigerator on all GMC built units (not upfitted by someone else) was a Norcold 12/120 volt unit. The bulb for the thermostat attaches to the underside of the freezer compartment and sometimes comes loose. Once in a great while the thermostat itself will go bad.

If you have a GMC built unit, and it has a Propane/Electric unit it is a replacement, I believe, and the above information is not applicable.

Rear Bath Royale. 3 way. Checked for the temp bulb. There's 2 small wires running up between the two tall cooling fins on the right side with a little cover over them. Everything looks conected and secured,,,,,still working on it,,,,,PL

Paul, a little more info on the fridge such as brand and model would help and also whether you are running it on LP or electric. There are some cures for that but I would need to know more.. Thanks, Jim

I bought a Norcold several years ago. It has electronic settings for temp It works just fine. No complaints. (Getting the Orig. one out was a bi..h.Had to use a saws-all)
