January is creeping up on us. As everyone knows, Quartzsite, Az. is the place to be in January. I see that the Pacific Cruisers will be drycamping again just south of Rice Ranch from the 16th - 25th. This is a great place and an easy walk to all of the activities. Beginning Jan. 23 the ham radio folks will be gathered, for a week long hamfest, just down hiway 95, about 5 miles.
For 2 weeks of water and dumping privaleges the cost is 40.00. If you dont need that you can park on some of the outer areas for free. The hamfest area is free parking.
The Big Tent will host the RV Show from the 22nd - 30th. This is a lot of fun to participate in. Sometimes there is a bargain or two but mostly they are showing their new stuff. John Ruff is normally there selling led lights, inside the tent. He is quite the carnie hauker and worth your visit just to listen to him.
We were nervous about attending the first year as we knew nothing about the area. I would sit up late in the evenings just trying to study the google maps of the area and reading all kind of forums on the subject. When we arrived Bert and Fay took us under their wings, along with others, and within a day or two we felt like veterans. So, should this be your first time to involve yourself in these activities, do not worry, you will have a great time.
Teri and I hope that lots of GMCers will attend this year. LAst year we had a couple of days of bad weather but everyone was able to ride it out. Normally the days are warm and the nights are cool. Your lp tank will keep your refer running for a long time. We do not use the furnace but do cary a Wave 6, purchased in Quartzsite, that is plenty to keep us warm at night. We do not always need heat at night. If you have solar, great. If you don't, do not worry. The Onan will keep you going or you might hook onto one of the other GMCer's small portable generators to charge those batteries.
LAst year we had some one day visitors. That was great and I tried to hang around when they were with us. We had some great visits.
So, bottom line, come on out and enjoy some time with your friends. We travel 1800 miles out there but last year Ken Burton came a lot farther. I think he will be back this year also. Great inexpensive fun with GMC folks, unless you blow an engine.
Anyone sitting on the fence about this, just email me. I will help you over that fence. Teri and I do a lot of geocaching out there. Last year we had Doug and Irene Norton helping us.
Hope to see you there. Life is always good in Quartzsite during January.

I think Chris Choffat posted an idea about getting a bunch of GMCers together at the weekly Cruise Night at Scottsdale Pavillions at the 101 and Indian Bend Rd 4-8 pm for those on their way to Quartzite from points east.
Sat Jan 15th would work well and a couple of miles south is a WalMart for those staying the night and continuing on to QZ in the morning.
I don't have my January work schedule yet so I don't know if I'll be home but Chris sounds like he'll make it.
I'd like to see this get pulled together and get some exposure, expecially with the Barrett Jackson starting the following week.

Dan,
The locals are seeing a large increase in the number of street vendo
permits and visitor permits, a big positive sign. This is a reversal over
the past few years. They are expecting over 400,000 visitors to the town
and at least one million folks to pass through to shop at the dozens of swap
meets in the area. The town is actually a bit nervous because of the
increase in interest. It should be fun, to say the least.

Oh wow, I am not surprized. Thanks for the report Steve. Folks are turning loose of some cash this year that they have been holding onto. That seems obvious by what happened with our retailers over this past weekend. I never held on to any. I mean, we were the ones paying 4.75 a gallon for gasoline back in 08. So, I am still a broke GMCer trying to take everything in while I can. Making those precious memories for later when I have to hobble around the living room and just dream about good old times in the GMC.
For those who just can't be in Quartzsite, I will be taking lots of pictures. Should you need a photo specific to some product just email me. I know John Ruff will be in the big tent with the latest on leds. Those things sell really good in Quartzsite, especially after many first timers wake up to a dead house battery. The absolute best thing you can do, cheap, when drycamping is put in a few leds and use them only. Incadessant and fluoressants will kill a house battery quick.
Got to go, Teri is calling. Trying to eliminate anything we don't need this winter in the GMC.
Hope to see you in Quartzsite.

I didn't see many GMC's at QZ last Jan. I had hoped to take the very 1st
this year to our annual RV Forum rally the last two weeks in Jan esp for the
wide open potluck. Looks like it will be next year. . .but I still may get a
motel room close and drive in!

I plan on having my GMC out there in January and February but it will be at the county park camp ground in Blythe. I'll come by the Rice Ranch & kick a few tumbleweeds in mid January and see if I can find you guys.
