engine water pump weeping [message #105724] |

I noticed today that my water pump is weeping coolant. It looks like it is coming from the front seal. I'm assuming that this means it's time to replace the water pump. 403 engine if it makes a difference.
Any suggestions on what pump is the best and any BTDT tips for doing the replacement will be appreciated.

Bill,
You are right when you say you need a new water pump. When the water pump starts weeping it is only a matter of time before the bearings go out. The seal is there to protect the bearings from the coolant which washes out the grease. Sometimes people think it is only a drip or two and nothing to worry about and then pay up for it later.

I had to do my water pump a few months back. I bought an all aluminum job by FlowKooler, the pump for our olds motors was 90 dollars from summit and IMHO is way better unit than a parts house remanufactured unit. And comes with a lifetime warranty... The part number escapes me, but you can search it on summit...
