Hello to all my friends on the GMC net. After encouragement by
several good friends at the recent Las Vegas GMCWS rally, I have
decided to again participate in the GMC net and help Jim in any way I
can to encourage people to install the rear brake reaction arm system
on there GMCs. I know personally that it has prevented me from
having two different serious accidents, one with my original concept
and one with the production unit that Rick Falagan designed that is
now available from Jim K. I finally got to drive Rick's coach at the
Las Vegas rally and confirmed that our to vehicle performed
identically. I have the first design with the reaction arms
connected to the bogie frame and Rick has the later design with the
sway bars reacting the barking forces. His design is much neater
looking, with the two sway bars instead of the reaction arms, and is
simpler to install and cost much less to manufacture.

It sure was a pleasure to talk to the people that drove Rick's GMC
and see the excitement of them discussing their experience. As Steve
F. stated before, there is no use talking about how the system works;
you have to drive a coach with the reaction arm system installed to
see the great improve in braking capability.

You also have to be very careful in who you let work on your GMC. I
lost my rear brakes near Victorville when I slowed down to get off
interstate 15 to get gas at Costco. The left rear brake line hose
had broken where it connected to the caliper. Apparently, the person
(me) that installed the caliper did not torque the two caliper bolts
correctly as they were long gone and the caliper was floating around
in the caliper mount. I was lucky that I didn't have to stop very
rapidly as the front brakes alone don't help much. I couldn't fine a
replacement so I removed the caliper and plugged the brake line and
drove on to Las Vegas and home with five wheel brakes which still
worked much better then by OEM system.

Hey Chuck. I saw you in photos of the Western States Rally and thought how I missed you. I hope to be out at Jim's this winter getting the reaction arm braking system installed. Maybe we can hook up. As you know, Missouri guys are show me people. I have seen the light.

Good that your back. Hang loose. Enjoy the rest of life. Don't sweat the small stuff. Everything is small stuff. Etc.

One question -- do we call the production systems reaction arm or sway bar. Better yet, why not MIBS4 - much improved braking system for GMC Motorhome?

Chuck,
We are all on the same boat when it comes to supporting your fine
concept and design.
It was easy for the rest of us to do the small modifications to make
it easier to manufacture and put on the market.
Most of the people did not see how much work you invested in this
project and time spent coming up to help run tests here and at your
place.
There are lot of people that took time to show others how this unit
functions and explained it in their own way.
Welcome back, and come up with more designs.

Does anyone have any photos of the production reaction arm system that clearly shows the inter-relation with the swaybar? I've only seen photos of the versions where the arm connected to the bogie frame bracket.

Thanks Rob,

That is heading in the right direction, but I would like to see the back side of the caliper & mounting bracket showing how it all connects to the sway bar.

I really like the idea of integrating the system with the swaybars. I had that as an idea back when Chuck was still playing with his prototype. Too bad I didn't speak up! Swaybars are an upgrade I eventually want to add.

A few questions for JimK:
Does the latest production version still use the Cadillac discs & calipers?

If yes, can I purchase the remainder of the reaction arm parts separately?

How much is the reaction arm system selling for now that it includes the use of swaybars, and are the swaybars included or an extra cost?

Les,

Here's another set of photos from the GMC album. Center attachment
point for the reaction arms is different than the one Rob sent you.
I've researched and studied all the material available on the reaction
arm system in preparation of installing my winnings!!!!

Dan,
Contacted JimK yesterday. He's assembling the various parts for
shipment. Once the shipment has been received I'll float a tentative
schedule for the install.

George,

The reaction arm system you will be receiving will not have the bracket that
bolts to the bottom of the bogie or the links that connect it to the brake
caliper mounting plates.

This was eliminated to reduce the cost ($2,995.00 to $2,395.00) and
complexity of the unit.

Yours will connect to the sway bars like the picture of Gary Kosier's.

Rob M.

Les,

Here's another set of photos from the GMC album. Center attachment
point for the reaction arms is different than the one Rob sent you.
I've researched and studied all the material available on the reaction
arm system in preparation of installing my winnings!!!!

Thanks Rob,

That is heading in the right direction, but I would like to see the back
side of the caliper & mounting bracket showing how it all connects to
the sway bar.

I really like the idea of integrating the system with the swaybars. I
had that as an idea back when Chuck was still playing with his
prototype. Too bad I didn't speak up! Swaybars are an upgrade I
eventually want to add.

A few questions for JimK:
Does the latest production version still use the Cadillac discs &
calipers?

If yes, can I purchase the remainder of the reaction arm parts
separately?

How much is the reaction arm system selling for now that it includes the
use of swaybars, and are the swaybars included or an extra cost?

George,

Yup, that's the ones Chuck sent me off line.

Les,

You're welcome.

I have a number of 3D drawings of the system showing how it connects to
the
sway bars that were sent to me by Chuck awhile back.

I would be willing to post them to the photo site IF Jim K gives me
permission to do so.

Les,

Jim had sent me two 80mm calipers and two Caddy calipers. But I
needed to come up with a bracket for the cable on the
torque box for the cable and I simply ran out of time. So I just
picked up a couple more 80mm calipers and used them.
That's why my front calipers are painted red and the rears are
not. I still have two red caddy calipers in the shop. Right
now I'm kinda' excited about Albert Branscombe's adaption of the
Kelsey-Hayes rear caliper. And, of course, there's
always a "honey-do" list hanging around my neck. Plus, I'm SLOW!
