G'day,
Sitting here listening to the radio and the "Racing Rocks" program just
announced that NASCAR is "going green" and will be running E-15 in 2011!

There is nothing wrong with running E15 or even e85 so long as you have engines/fuel systems designed for the problems they create. Well, that and you have to be willing to accept less energy per unit. But places like Brazil run almost exclusively on ethanol these days and it is fine. It's just a problem for people like us holding on to technology that struggles with the problems. Well... it's also a problem if it costs as much as real gas, but that's economics and not mechanics...

That's what the commentator said but it will help PR as "E-15 can't be bad;
NASCAR runs it!"

My guess is that using E-15 will allow higher
compression ratios (more horsepower) due to
increased Octane equivalent over straight
gasoline, even if fuel consumption is higher.

AND, their engines only need to run for a bit
over 600 miles (at most) before they are torn
down and totally rebuilt!

They won't be running E15 in their motorhomes or haulers its all politics not good for the country or engines. Yes I know they are diesel until the corn lobby makes them convert ethenol.
