Wally,, noticed you were logged on. Does Megasquirt have a funtion like EBL called Lean Cruise???? Looking at the MS website it looks like it has DFCO but they call it "Overrun". Also is MS idle "Dynamic"??? What I mean by that is will it adjust the idle based on the RPM of the motor right then or adjust the IAC based on water temp or other varibles but nor RPM,,,thanks,,,PL

Lean cruise can be set up in the VE table AND be closed loop if you are running wideband. You can run closed loop at ANY AFR you have set in the AFR table. The AFR table is just like a spark or fuel table.
Yes there is overrun fuel cut like DFCO or you can set the VE table to do it too.
All MS codes have IAC position controlled by water temp as an option.
MS3 and MS extra codes have dynamic idle rpm control as an option.

Wally,
If you intall Megasquirt on an Olds 455 with stock manifold could you use the TVS port for the water temp sensor (I saw your modified water inlet)?
If you put it on and installed an air fuel monitor, temp sensor, inlet air temp, rpm pick up -- but stayed with carb, distributor -- how does the data you monitor get captured and would it provide information to allow you to tune the stock systems?

I have more reading and homework to do.
So you had the computer advancing/retarding your timing, for you?
Would a Pertronix comversion be sufficient?

The modified intake is from an early Toro and has only one port in the front for the Toro temp sender. That's why I modified the thermostat housing for more places to put sensors. The TVS port would be fine for a sensor.
You could data log with the carb and mechanical distributor. You wouldn't get throttle position or spark advance and some other stuff in the log. If you've gone that far it would be a small step (four more wires) to go to a computer controlled HEI. We ran that way for a while.

Yes squirt was controlling the timing only. Pertronix only replaces the points? For control you would need the HEI with no vacuum can, weights, and springs.
