Well, the GMCMI rally is over and a very good one it was.

What's next?.

The next two things for me are the GMC Fall Work Rally and the Ft. Wayne hamfest.

After looking at everyone's schedule and local things going on like the Covered Bridge Festival, we finalized the Fall Work Rally date to be the days leading up to and the week end of October 23 and 24. The location will be at Blaine and Diane Merrell's Way West Air Park in Bainbridge, Indiana.

Most of the local annual attendees have already been notified of the date. I am making this announcement in case we missed anyone. So send me, Blaine Merrell, or Bob Burkitt a note if you plan on attending for a day, two days, three days, or more..

Come visit us and bring your GMC to work on. You bring your projects and work on them. Others will assist if necessary.

Some of the facilities available are Blaine's "Florida Room" (66 degrees year round) with 4 post hoist, several additional indoor work areas, a tire truing machine, and lots of tools.

If you pull the tires, (I'll bring my long reach jack) I will help you with the use of the truing machine which I affectionately call "Blaine's tire shredder". I did all 6 of my wheels several years ago.

I plan on helping Blaine install body isolators on one of his coaches. I may be installing some side windows in mine.

For you pilots who might just wish to stop by, Way West Airpark (50II) has 3800 feet (9-27) of the best grass I have ever landed on. The strip ends in front of Blaine's front door.
http://www.airnav.com/airport/50II
If I do not bring my coach I'll fly in.

So come on over and visit or stay for a couple of days. It is all very informal. Bring whatever food you want. Grill out side if you desire. Feel free to bring your spouse. We would enjoy the company.

I'm sure Blaine will have his usual assortment of wind wings, trailer hitches, radiator guards, etc. If you want one I would call Blaine ahead of time so he does not sell yours to someone else.

Way West Air Park is approximately 1/2 mile north of US 36 on Putnam County Road 500E. This is 2 or 3 miles east of the town of Bainbridge.

http://www.bdub.net/blainemerrell/index.html

The address is:
101 Way West Air Park.
Bainbridge, Indiana 46105

Note: Some Microsoft S&T data bases have it listed as "Way West Air Pork" Also Microsoft S&T positions you on the wrong end of the runway. Blaine and Diane are located on the WEST end of the air park. You can not miss it when you arrive, Just look for first house on the west end with all of the GMCs.

I expect to have Dan there taking pictures as usual.

I'm trying to convince Chuck Boyd to show up. It is a 375 mile trip for him.

Oh yes, there is free WiFi available

Ken, Teri just told me that I won't be there that weekend. Can you hang around for a week? I got two windows to install in our coach too, both small ones, door and kitchen.

Show up early. I'll probably get down there on Tuesday or so to start on Blaine's coach. We could do it earlier in the week and send you on your way.

Actually you could come early and go to the covered bridge festival which ends on the previous Sunday (October 8-17). Spend a day or two running around Parke county and park the coach at Blaine and Diane's. Then we can do windows after that.

Folks not at the GMCMI rally really missed a good un. Weather was
perfect for a change and the fish were biting for Blaine.

Since my wife's personal chef was gone for 10 days or so, she informed
the chef that she lost 5 pounds in my absence. Should be a shoo in
for future rallies from now on with her full approval.<<<G>>>

It seems my cousins could pick no cotton while Teri and I were at the convention. We start again tomorrow. Not sure when we will finish. Friends we met in LA last winter are flying in the week of the work rally. I wish I could have been there. We will see how long it takes to finish the cotton.

I'm sure we can find a place for you to plug in if necessary. I've stayed there many times with my coach and always plugged in.

If too many coaches show up, some of us may need to share a 110 volt line. I for one do not need power. I've never had a problem with power there in the past. Blaine has plenty of power circuits around. His main building is large enough to park at least 4 GMCs inside. He has 3 GMCs and lots of other stuff in it right now. His Florida Room could park 3 GMCs inside. There is plenty of outside parking on the gravel and grass. I think we will try to do some stuff outside and one or two inside depending on what projects people come to work on.

We will accommodate whatever you need.

I have been lucky to have a GMC that does not have a great power need and I do have a small Solar panel on the roof to help out but won't sustain by itself.

I can't really think of anything I need help with but I would like to see whats going on and maybe I can help with the creative side or some of the things I have been involved in.

OH, I should mention, Is Blaine Dog Friendly? I have 3 Greyhounds that travel with me.... WOOF WOOF WOOF!!! Laughing

Still trying to see if I can actually be able to go.

Thanks much for the response.

We'll be there but not until Saturday afternoon. Dean gets home from work at 7:15am(CDT). I'll have SunnyB and FischenDog ready to go when he gets here. Someone tell Blaine that Dean is smokin' up more venison sticks as I type this. See yous there! Very Happy

Blaine likes doggies.

I know he has dog biscuits and I'll try to remember to bring a big bag myself.

I'll probably bring Jasper or Clyde or maybe both.

Ken, maybe we will get a rainy day and I can run my coach up for you to install those two windows. I am going to hate missing this one.

I think you are missing the point of this rally. You will install the windows and I or others will assist if necessary.

Yes I'll help you if you show up. I realize you know this but I do not want others to think that this is a bring you own parts and expect someone else to do all of their work for them. We have had a couple of occasions in the past where people expected that and it did not happen.

That's been a recurring problem at Bean Station too. Folks hear so much
about what a good time we have there that they think we all go there for the
fun of getting greasy. They try to oblige us by bring the work they don't
want to do themselves. Too bad.

I know that is not what Dan meant or intended. The last time I tried to help him on his brake booster out in the desert, Carl and I ended up standing around while he did all of the work.

This is also why I said I would HELP anyone who wanted to true their tires. "You remove them and I or Blaine will help with the operation of the machine".

We had one guy show up a couple of years ago with a major part to be replaced. It was an all day job and he expected someone to do it for him. It never happened.

Everybody pitches in at these events and with the availability of tools not normally available at home, things get done that can not be accomplished at home.

I hope to be down there most of the week helping others including installing body isolators on one of Blaine's coaches. I usually just go to help others, learn a few new things, and to associate with other GMCers.

WOW, I guess I may be the odd ball.... I don't have anything to fix, at least not that I can't do at home ( knock on wood ).

If I can get free to go down, I was going to say hi and maybe try to lend a hand and learn.....

Still don't know if I can make it, probably won't know until the last week before I need to leave...... And I am retired!!!!

I also don't know if I can get away, but I'd sure like to try. It would be a great way to take the coach for a short trip from my home, and I'd love to have some experienced members take a look at my coach and give me ideas where I should do further work.

Sounds like a great time for those of us that like to work on the coaches.

Yea, Ken knew I was just messing with him. I'd sure love being there. Just won't work for me. Seems I was the one that pushed this by Diane. Blaine kept on me to work on her. Did not take any work. I mentioned it, she was not sure, I assured her we would not tear up anything, and she said go for it. Ken B. just could not believe it when I told him. It will be a fun weekend for all, with a coach to work on or not. If I could, I would drive the car up to help out.
