Where/who has these for our coaches.
I remember seeing them somewhere, but I've slept since then.
Would like Black since I cant find any chrome wheels for our coaches either.

i would think that the powder coat would chip off as soon as you try to put the tire on the rim. i know my alum. rims suffered from it.

I have trailer rims powdercoated and they hold up just fine.

Why not dismount your tires and have those rims sandblasted and powdercoated?

Any steel wheel can be media blasted and powder coated any color of your
choice. If you have 16" steel wheels on your coach, then you do not need to
purchace different ones. If you have 16.5" and want to change, Chev, GMC,
and Dodge wheels up to about 1994 from 1 Ton trucks and vans with 8 lugs
will work on the rear. On the front if you have the larger brake calipers,
there is sometimes an interference problem. A 1/4" thick spacer between the
hub and wheel usually is enough to clear, but it will space the wheels
outboard far enough to not engage the hub centering flange on the front
hubs. I make spacers to extend that flange that make up the difference. When
I made mine I made 4 extra. enough for 2 coaches. Anybody want to go this
route, I posted some pix on the photo site of what I did so you can see the
mod. Contact me off GMCnet at jamesh1296@gmail.com & we can discuss it
further.

The steel wheels are so heavy, I recommend alum wheels. Jim K has the regular eagles at a good price, use them with mag-lugs, and they work great!

I did a whole lot of research on powder coating a couple of years ago. We did environmental testing of powdercoats versus urethane paints on both steel and aluminum substrates. Paint won hands down on both substrates for chip resistance and was a clear winner for UV stability.

While powdercoating is an inexpensive and quick way to go, nothing beats a good coat of urethane paint over a urethane primer sealer.

There is a Company in Lamar {NW Arkansas} that specializes in 4X4s and off road vehicles ~
They sell the powder coated 16" dually steel rims for $35.00 each ~

After having the sidewalls go out on 2 of my 16.5 tires last fall in the Ozarks
and spending 3 days just looking for and replacing them I decided that I would
soon have to take the plunge and replace all of my 16.5 wheels with 16 inchers ~

I almost bought some of the powder coated 16 inch wheels from them last October
when we were having the tire problems coming thru that area but we decided to wait
until we got back home and go with the polished 16 inch alloy wheels instead ~

Lamar is in the Coal Hill Clarksville Area ~ {they may sell on ebay}

Would love to find that company. I'm looking for rims at this time and the closest I've found steel rim wise is

Southwest Wheel Company's F029587 which is a
16" dual wheel with 8-6.5" bolt circle and 4.56" center bore.

Price: $107.95 but if you buy 6-10 $91.76

That company in Lamar would be a good resource for us in the GMC community. While shipping of steel wheels is expensive (they ARE heavy!) the low price would make up for it.

I keep an eye on Craigslist and just bought six 16 inch steel wheels for $25 each. I still need to see how "true" they are and media blast and paint/powder coat. Powder coated rims for $35 is cheaper than what the powder coat _alone_ costs around here. (Portland OR)

When shipping things in quantity - for instance 6 wheels on a pallet - I always check with Forward Air. Don't let the name fool you, they do surface freight not air. Rolling Eyes

http://www.forwardair.com/

Also be sure to check U-Ship - you could find somebody who'd toss 6 wheels in the back of a pickup heading your way for gas money.

That is REALLY interesting, I've always felt that people just have a fetish about powder coating and the only thing good about it is it's cleaner environmentally.

It's impossible to touch up too.

Joe,

I bought 6 Eagle (non-centered) wheels from Jim K. with the lug nuts and
centers. I think it worked out close to what you have found when broken
down to a per wheel price,

Look great and they are less filling.
