I have found that the three part Alcoa polishing system works wonders on our Alcoas. There is a cleaner, the polish then the sealant. At first, I DID NOT use the sealant which is said to keep the wheels shiny 5 or 6 times longer than without. In a month or two they began getting dull again. Later, when I did polish them, I used the sealant. It works. They stay shiny for months.

This trip I will be using another Alcoa on the front wheels, one modified to be hub centered and that aligns with the rear wheels. In short, the front and rear will have the same wheelbase. Just cleaned and polished one today. Wow! Beautiful! Come by and take a look at Du Quion(if the Michelins on these wheels(made in '07) hold up. Don't like Michelins after two blow outs. Now go with Bridgestone). BTW, my Alcoas were bought in 2003 and still look great.....Michael at GEMRECS

I was obsessed with polishing my Alcoas when I lived in Michigan. After 6 years in AZ, they may need a touch up. That's the best fix I've found so far!

Mike,

Mine were so dull I decided to go for the matt finish - got those Scotch
Brite balls that Harbor Freight sells and went over them - the look OK.

Am trying to find a truck stop that polishes them and that's when I'll
switch to shiny!

Rob M.

I read on another forum that there is a guy who goes around at Quartzite and polishes your alcoas for $5-10.

I found some blue alum polish at autozone and it cleaned and polished my tarnished aloca's and the two Eagles that were rears and not polished at all. I used a buff wheel on my orbital and they look really good for 5 min of work!

Hi Rob, See you soon. Find a polishing shop. There was a guy in California that polished Harley Davidson wheels. Got him to do my 240-Z valve cover. Later, he moved-to Michigan, I think, but there must be others......Michael at GEMRECS

Michael,

Thanks, I called around in Houston and found a shop that would polish them -
over $100 to polish ONE wheel!

Yeah right!

I heard that!!

I when with the Alcoas because at the time that what everyone recommended.
I do not drive in bad weather and rarely in the rain. Those Alcoas turn grey on their own and when I tried to polish them, it took hours for just one and it still was not perfect with blotchs of grey tarnish on it.

I've actually thought of painting them to get away from the buffing night mare, but maybe I am doing it wrong, using the wrong stuff, the wrong polishing wheel or all of the above.

ANY suggestion to make this easier would be good since they are tarnishing again and I am absolutely dreading trying to shine them up again.

Thanks

Michael, where did you get the modified alcoa rims for the front? I sure would like some pictures when you get them mounted. I live south of Houston and have a 245 michelin steel ribbed tire you can have for a spare. It has lots of thread but has several years on the carcass.

I got them from Frank Emshoff. Don't know who welded the center pieces or where Frank got them from. He is pretty inventive and may have done this himself. He recently bought a Prevost for a song having sold his GMC.....Thx, Michael
PS Call me and come by the shop sometime, 713-373-7775
The tire offer is appreciated but I'm sticking with 225s.

I told you already! Get the Alcoa polish, remove the wheels from the coach, place one on a couple of saw horses and using some soft cotton cloths(diapers work great), go to work. Ninety percent of that junk will come off-use the cleaner, the polish and the sealant. Made for the company that makes the wheels.
Thx, Michael at GEMRECS
