About 2 years ago Rob Mueller bought a Peak color wireless backup camera
kit, I think from Sam's Club for $129.

Last year I bought the same kit, also from Sam's, for $69.

I immediately installed mine, with the camera peeking through a small area
of removed tint film at the top left of the rear window inside the closet
there. It worked pretty well but very erratically, with frequent
drop-outs.After a while, it quit completely, leaving me with the 7" monitor
hanging where I removed the rear view mirror. What with Cad500
installation, etc., I didn't spend any time fooling with it until a couple
of weeks ago when I hooked up an X-10 wireless camera and discovered that
the monitor would receive that signal, telling me the problem was with
either the camera or the separate transmitter.

Last week, Rob revealed that he's installed the camera but nothing else, so
he left the transmitter and monitor with me for troubleshooting. Tuesday,
when I replaced my transmitter with his (two small multi-pin connectors), I
saw a bright, clear, steady display -- an EXCELLENT rear view image.

Yesterday morning I called the support 800 number for Old World Industries,
the distributor of Peak products (including Peak antifreeze, Herculiner bed
liner, etc.). I told the representative that I have an out-of-warranty
backup camera with a bad transmitter, "...can I order just that item?" "Why
don't I just send you one and forget about it?" "Sounds good to me". After
I gave him my shipping information, he said, "I'll ship it tomorrow
morning."

Well, I'm sure he did better than that, because it just arrived via UPS
ground! From Illinois!

I haven't installed the new transmitter, but I'm nonetheless highly
impressed with that Fantastic Fan - like support.

I had a similarly exceptional experience with our Garmin GPS. I will definitely look into the Peak camera.

Thanks for posting this, Ken.

Nice to hear that there are still companies out there that believe in customer service. Thanks for the tip. Now I know where I'm getting my system.

Jeez,

First you make me feel bad because you get it for $60 bucks less, then I
help you out and you point out what a slacker I am because I haven't
installed it after two years! Thanks Mate! ;-)

PS - Glad my transmitter made it easy to troubleshoot your system, hopefully
when I do get round to installing it my transmitter won't do the same thing
yours did!

Maybe it will redeem you slightly if I tell everyone what a nice
concealed-in-the-center-of- the-spare-tire camera installation you did --
during those 2 years. :-) Heck, you're 90+% finished already!

Ken,

Thanks, that was the MECHANICAL part of the installation, the rest is
electrical and that's the hard part for me!

I will have to get it done as Helen (from Venus) and me (from Mars) CANNOT
seem to be able to communicate effectively for me to back into spaces!

Rob,

Rather than go to the trouble of wiring the camera & transmitter into a
separate circuit, I just tied them to the tail lights. I generally run with
the (LED) parking lights on anyway, so the camera's powered up when needed,
not when not.

The monitor has its own power switch but drops into "Idle" mode when there's
no signal from the transmitter so 'most any wiring connection up front's OK,
including even plugging the provided plug into the cigarette lighter.

We can get you into backup mode at Du Quoin.
