Anyone know where to locate the thermometer sender on a junkyard Blazer
so I can wire up the thermometer in my overhead console? No idea what
I'm looking for or where it might be located. Can't imagine a new one
will be cost effective. :^)

Kelvin,,, looked up 95. No joy. Looked up 98. Listed as "outside ambiant temperature display sensor." The component locator says'"Front center of vehicle hood latch support." No pic of the sensor but a pic/drawing of the conector is oval, 2 pin. BLK/WHT listed as "engine control modual grd." LT GRN/BLK "outside ambiant temp sensor signal." These are exact words out of the factory manual for 98. Backed and looked up same for 97,,,not there. Sooo, good luck. Remember "left" is DRIVERS side. Are you going to be at Duquion so I can see yours installed???,,,hope this helps,,,PL

If this is the right part#, I'd buy a new one. From Rock Auto:

AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S8030 {#10396844, 25775833, SU9496}
Category: Ambient Air Temperature Sensor

* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 2 business days
$5.90
Add to Cart
ACDELCO Part # 25775833
Category: Ambient Air Temperature Sensor

* Non-stock item--shipping delayed up to 5 business days
$3.62
Add to Cart

Disregard original #. above, that appears to be 2000 and newer. Found this:

1995 CHEVROLET BLAZER 4.3L 262cid V6 MFI (W) OHV : Heat & Air Conditioning : Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Wiki Price
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S1133 {#15971127, SU1405}

$22.79

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # AX28

$31.79

Also, they are $23.99 at Autozone

That's not the part. Found it and they're $23 or $32.
And no connector, of course.

Got the part I needed from the Men's Mall for $5 with a length of wire.
Thanks to Bob Burkitt for sending me a pic of the part and where it
was located. I'll get it all written up eventually.

Exactly where it was. Clipped to a piece of sheetmetal with an 8"
pigtail before it goes into the main harness. Wires are LtGrn/black and
Yellow.

Looks like this with a different bracket. Much simpler bracket on the
one I harvested.

Nope. But I'll take pictures and notes.

With what Keith V has and what I'll document we should have this down.

Still going to need instructions on calibrating the Compass I think but
I have everything I need to wire it all up now.

The compass should be self calibrating. Go a nearby parking lot and make a complete circle a time or two and it will true up to your location, or just let it do it over time.

If that sender does not work go back to the junk yard and get another one. There were two versions of the sender. I do not remember the years or the differences other than the wrong one will not work. Also if you have not modified that unit, it will not update he temperature if you are not driving down the road. The unit needs a VSS signal or it needs a mod in the unit to make it think it is moving.

Sorry been busy...
the sender is behind the grill, pretty much in the center.
They are actually hard to find as the consoles are quite popular.

Here's the cal instructions;

Calibrating Compass

Find a parking lot where you can do some WIDE 360 degree circles. Heck, it'd even work to drive around the edge of a parking lot. Important thing here is you MUST be able to make at least 2-3 circles, and EACH "circle" must take at least 15 seconds or so. In other words, tire-smokin parking lot "donuts" will NOT work here, but you might do a couple anyways just cause it is fun :^)!

Once you are ready to circle, press down the "on/off" button and hold it. WHILE HOLDING THAT BUTTON, ALSO press the "US/Met" button (so you are holding down BOTH buttons) for approx 5 seconds. The display will say "var", which is your queue to set the "variance" for the compass. You set the "variance" by releasing the buttons, then hitting the "US/Met" button to scroll thru the different variances. Once you get to the correct one, hit "On/Off" to set it into the compass. A map showing the variance to be used for various geographic locations is listed below

3. Next, repeat step 2 again with the buttons, but this time hold the two buttons PAST when the word "var"
shows up, and eventually the word "cal" will light instead. Once the word "cal" comes up, start your driving in
circles. After anywhere from 1 to 3 circles, the compass will calibrate itself and the word "cal" will go out.
Once this happens, your compass is calibrated!

Paul, "Blessed are they who run around in circles, for they shall be known
