The time is drawing near. 2 weeks and there will already be several GMC coaches in Du Quoin. Eastern States will be there for a gathering before International. Our dues are cheap and I will have Eastern States applications at the table. The numbers are good. We are going to have a big one. Lots of new folks will make this their first International gathering. I recall our first one in Michigan. A lot of work has been done in preparing for this one. I realize never will everyone be happy but this time I expect fewer complaints than any gathering since I have been attending.
Highway 51 is a good GMC friendly wide 2 lane road. Anywhere you get on it will be good. I would not come across from 57 to 51 at the Marion exit unless you are planning for extra time and lots of shopping. We have traveled 51 from the south to highway 70 a few times and it is all good road. There is a lot of highway work going on in Illinois. Yesterday we only ran into one short spot on 51. That was just south of Carbondale and only a 5 minute wait. There was none from the north yesterday. Lots of work going on in various spots on 57. Let me say that you need to hold to the speed limit. I have never driven I-57 from the south without seeing at least one cop the first 20 miles. Saturday we saw 8-10 troopers before we got to the Marion exit. The fines are steep in Illinois.
Come if you can. I promise you will not be dissappointed. The tech seesions are great. The social atmosphere is outstanding.
Please come by Jim K's table to see me if you are new. I will be there. I think Jim may be busy with appraisals this time. With recent talk about fire loss and proper insurance several have already contacted him about the appraisals. When Jim is gone, I got "deals".
Oh, almost forgot. Should you be coming from Carbondale, keep your eye to the right. About 4-5 miles you will see a RR bridge that was built in 1902, big numbers. The drive just north of that bridge, on same side of road, leads to a very famous guy that was my mentor while getting our coach ready to travel. You will know who as the road is named after him. He was one of the fore fathers of this net. I am hoping he can make an appearance at the convention.

It appears the GMCES Saturday seminars will deal mostly with various aspects of the dash air conditioning system in the GMC.
Our dash air has not worked since I purchased the coach, and to be honest, that is one of the reasons we did not use the coach as much as we might have this past (relatively hot) summer.
I am planning on being at Duquoin all week. So now I am making it my goal, using the info gleaned from those seminars, to by the end of the GMCMI convention to have at least diagnosed what is wrong with my a/c. I don't necessarily expect to fix it by the end of the week, but would like to determine what I need to do to fix it.
So my question is what tools/supplies should I bring to accomplish this goal?

Paul,
If you have not already done so I would suggest that you learn how the air
conditioning system is supposed to work. You can do that by studying the
appropriate parts of Section 1 Body Heating and Air conditioning of the
Maintenance Manual. You will probably have to go through it a number of
times to gain a good understanding of the system (well I did at least).
Once you've done that go to the trouble shooting section and review it also.
I think with the knowledge you gain by studying the manual, information
gleaned from the seminars, and help from other GMC'ers at the convention you
will accomplish your goal.

Re small LP leaks. I had, maybe still have a sensitive nose to natural gas and propane. I had a slight, very slight smell of propane in the stove of my SOB. Turns out it was one of the burner controls. A replacement from the RV store stopped that.
I note someone said, "be sure the pilot light is off". The brand of stove/oven in my SOB requires carefull reading of the oven control to determine how to turn the oven pilot off. I think turning off the oven pilot also turns off the stove top pilot.
I can get the brand if someone needs to know. It is 1976 vintage.

Sounds like a problem at the source. Something connected to the tank or the
tank itself must be the problem. Either way, not good.
BTW, be sure and park far away at DuQuoin.

If you suspect the O ring behind the tank mounted gage assembly is the source I would change it for sure. About 10 years ago when I moved from warm Southern California to frigid Northern Nevada in March that O ring started leaking liquid propane at 1 AM when the temperature got down to +15 degrees. Good thing my wife was watching TV, I went outside to check on the smell and the liquid gas was running out of that O ring and no way to stop it except tighten the screws really tight. We had to leave the campground and drive around for 2 hours with all windows open.
The whole camp ground wreaked of propane even after we got back 2 hours later. The local propane outfitter had the replacement O ring.
