If you have Jay Leno kind of capital and need parts for a broken steam car toys like that great, but the cost to purchase or even buy time on one is not trivial and unless a part is very complex it can usually be machined from billet for less cost and time.

A now defunct company I once worked for tried real hard to make money doing that with two big scanners and several different "printers" (a laser sinter for metal, a laser fuser for nylon, paper cutters for making patterns for sand castings and a plastic [SLA]to make parts that looking production). Did I mention that the are out of business??

Time on those machines is available in Michigan if you shop for it and can roll in as filler job (no time table), and probably will be until the economy picks up (maybe some time after 2012) or until the companies with the hardware move it all to China (fact - not a joke or partisan based opinion).

Fact, indeed.

We're the ones who are in love with prices at Walmart and Harbor
Freight. Those prices don't come from workers making $15-20/hr...
