I removed my Separator and it looks like new. I blew through the bottom (large) tube and could not get any air out the top, assume that it is working properly.
What is the purpose of this item and is it reasonable to bypass it and connect back to the Fill tube?
I filled my tanks to the top, without the Separator installed and did not get any leaks, so I am going to look at the multiple hose connections from the tank to the separator, one of them must be loose.
All suggestions would be appreciated.

It is there to prevent raw fuel from getting into the charcoal cannister and loading it full of fuel. That can happen when you top off the tanks since that path is the primary vent for the fuel system. I would leave it in place especially since it seems to be working.

The bottom is the small tube, the top is the large tube.
It should be installed to you can blow into the small tube and have the air come out the top.
But if you pump fuel into the bottom, the ball inside floats and THEN shuts off the flow out of the top.

I guess I had it backwards, (top/bottom) blowing in the small tube allows air passage while the other way the air is blocked. I will be sure to install it right side up.
