We seem to have quite a few Porsche enthusiasts, along with Corvette and other performance vehicle fans (so I don't leave out Harleys)

Gene, my email address is jamesh1296@gmail.com
I attended a US school at Rivera Motors near Portland, OR. Home of Monte
Shelton if any of you guys are familiar with him. Not quite the same as the
one in Germany but one of our instructors was named Helmut Gomez. His mother
was German and his Father was a Spanish speaking US Serviceman. He had a
vasserboxer vanagon that he took me and others for rides on the test track
behind the facility and I still remember 4 wheel drifts and burnouts in that
thing. Most of my training was on 914's, 911's and most of the aircooled
1600 cc stuff along with Audi and Rabbit water cooled with CIS mechanical
fuel injection. I always wanted to get into the 917 types but you had to go
to Germany for that. Stubborn fellows, those Germans. They keep working on
them until they sing like a canary. Learned a lot.

Nice to hear we have such enthusiasts here. When I go looking for parts or advice at a Porsche dealership, they don't have any technicians that worked on a 914-6 before.

You do learn to do most of your own maintenance on all these vintage machines!

James,
Thanks for the email address. I sent a message.

Hope you can help.

Who knew there were so many other Porsche nuts (aficionados) on the GMC net?

I've got an interesting tale about the sale of my ground-up restored '57

I'm a new guy to GMC's and a gear head all my life, I just sold my last of
the 3 porsche's I've had over the years,
I built and raced a formula V in the late 60's, love the VW's & porsche's. i
have learned so much from you all in
the last month I've been on line with you. It's hard to keep up (time wise)
with all your Q & A's. but I do.

This discussion prompted me to Google "PB Tweeks" to see if that company is
still around. After I bought the 356 in Indianapolis in '74, while
stationed in Dayton, it seemed the only parts source was Stoddard with his
outrageous prices. Then ads began to appear in "356 Registry" magazine for
"PB Tweeks" with much better prices.

While visiting my folks back in Indianapolis, I decided to visit "PB
Tweeks". After about 5 trips up and down the block past the advertised
address, I finally went into the veterinarian's office at that location and
said to the receptionist something like, "I know this is going to sound...".
She interrupted me, "Yes, this is PB Tweeks...".

I don't remember the brothers' names, but the older was the veterinarian.
the younger had just returned from attending college in Europe, bringing
along a bunch of Porsche 356 parts and contacts for more. A small store
room WAS the warehouse.

I bought a lot of parts from them, and apparently they're still a good
source. Wonder if the parts still come from the Vet's office?

Hard to believe GMC's were in production in those days! :-)

Don't get me started on Chuck S. and his antics. :-(

The boys were both veterinarians (Dr. Brett Johnson went to school with a good friend of mine), and the clinic back room was PB Tweeks. Both would study veterinary medicine during the school year, and go to Germany to get Porsche parts over the summer. They would even hold Swap-Meets outside the clinic. Those were fun days!

Even Chuck Stoddard started out as a Porsche fanatic/enthusiast/businessman before he started playing with motorhome updates!

There must be a real appreciation for all things mechanical in this group.
