The Tri Diodes in my Alternator were bad. Rebuilding would have cost about $50.00, and I would still have a 34 year old 80 amp Alternator. I decided that for a little more money I could get a New 100 Amp with a lifetime warranty so I bought the AutoZone DL7157.
Works just fine. One more item to check off my list. Heh, my list is getting to be mostly wants rather than needs.
JWID.

Rebuilt in Mexico. If it had been China I would not have bought it.
Lifetime warranty with AZ is pretty good for less than $100.00.

We put my old Alt on a test bench and put it under heavy load, the Delcotron light was still lit, the Alt was producing 13.9V and 42 Amps at max load. I could have just dealt with the light rather then spend the money but I do not like Red Lights on my dash. <VBG>
Thanks for all the help.

my last rebuilt alternator lasted 3 years( after trying 3 to get one that
worked. ) When it failed, it would jump voltages when I went over a bumpy
road ( yep stator winding shorting to each other).

My spare (a rebuild) had a soldered patch to the stator windings when I
looked into it, (Toasted - I had the whole insides replaced by a builder).

So now I no longer trust rebuilt alternators ( they just change what is not
working--- not what has been toasted ;>)

JWID - (but my suitcase, always come off the belt last too.)

good luck
