Interesting looking conversion.....I wonder if the windshield is stock(something) or a custom one off.
Also noticed in the interior pic that the sink faucet and shower head appear to be the same or similar to my 76pb. 4th pic from the bottom right.

Not a big deal.....my mind is on sabbatical since my last 1000 mile trip.

But really, GM's inspiration for the GMC was the REVCON. Very Happy

Sorry,

Having talked to the people on the start of the program, their interest was generated from three things:
The corporate plan to build a Transport/Limousine to respond to the interest seen in the stretch Toros.
The success in the marketplace of the Clark/Cortez (also front wheel drive but underpowered) started in 1963. These were 18-1/2 and 22 foot long (sound familiar).
An interest in the RV market without using the truck/bus chassis sold to other builders (for obvious political reasons).

Revcon only actually hit the road a few months before the introduction of the TZE we know.

Of course, this is all good clean fun and I hope no one takes it too seriously but.....

John Hall (Stepson of Wally Byam, founder of Airstream) started the company around 1969. He began with a freight car load of Toronado half frames. My intake cover has a Toro logo.

The first Revcon rolled out in 71. That's why my flatnose Revcon looks so OLD. The design was dated by the time the first one was built.

Around 1970 GM required Revcon to conduct tests to determmine if the Toro drive train was adequate for the coach.

So it seems reasonble that the Revcon, in addition to the Cortez, influenced GM's decision to move forward

Of course the militant Revcon folks take this all very seriously. But i want to get along with you guys.

Very Happy

I find any conversation along these lines to be very informative and interesting....the new gmc owners, I am thinking, might also like to know about the mh origins.

It is too hot outside to work on the coach.....learning more about it is the next best thing.

Dave,

I agree 101%!

I'll bet too that when the GMC designers first saw the Revcon they said
"well whatever we build it won't be hard to make it better looking than that
butt ugly thing!"

Keep in mind that the GMC was as much about how to do it as it was about what to do. Many of the technologies were "prototyped" in a production environment to see if they would work for mainstream products. Adhesives, extrusions, aluminum, Smc, fiberglass, etc. I had the pleasure of working for Alex after the GMC and also had many private meetings with him on future technologies and the whole concept of benchmarking. The GMC has a lot of depth to it way beyond the vehicle itself!

eye of the beholder..... Razz

For a while last year i had the GMC intact in the yard next to the revcon and I showed people both coaches.

"So which one are you keeping and which one are you parting out?"

"but this one looks so much 'newer', it's a shame you can't fix it"

I was pretty glad when the first major parts were removed from the GMC so i could stop having that conversation.
