First, I am tickled pink with myself. No anitfreeze on my intake. Stopped all 3 leaks and replaced the heater hoses I had to cut off. They had been on there way too long. I am thinking they should be changed every 5 years, like my tires.
We are up in the nice little park, hidden by at least a mile from anywhere. It is Leatherwood, a city owned campground on a lake. There is a big Vdub rally here in Eureka Springs this weekend. I found out about this place from the Missouir vdub folks. 15 bux a nite. Now, that is my kind of campground, with hookups. The host told us we likely would not have phone service or Directv. Hey, I got them both. Of course we are using the Wilson Trucker, on the roof, and a 3 watt amp.
Life is so good in a GMC.

Dan, Teri: I am at a National Forest campground west of Helena MT, same great deal, two rigs here, 15 spots. $4 a night. Verizon service for the net. The day yesterday was so good it was like siting in ice cream with a scoop. Life is good out camping.

We recently spent some time on the Tennessee River at Harrison Bay State Park just NE of Chattanooga.
When we reached the 10 day limit, the Park ranger found us a spot across the river at the Chester
Frost County Park. { we just swapped camp sites with another Motor Home }

We drove 15 miles South East to the Chickamauga Dam, crossed the river, then drove 14 miles to the
Chester Frost Campground. They put us in a beautiful spot right on the river ~ Full hookups & all ~

Both The Tennessee State Park Rangers and The Hamilton County Park Rangers Treated Us Great ~

We may have been overcharged @ $9 per night judging from your posts,

Tom: Most of the National Forest Service Campgrounds here in the Northwest are $8 to $12 a night. With the Golden Age or Golden access pass you get half price on them. So, the one I am in now is only $4. They usually have water and vault toilets. This one has no garbage service, they ask you to take it with you. The sites are large, and often very private. It is not uncommon to be the only one in an entire campground. My kind of places.

The Golden Age/Access passes also get you in FREE to all national parks, which run from $8 to $25 these days. That is you and your entire party. Then any camp spot is half price too.

They are good at BLM campgrounds and Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds too. Again, half price sites.

I very rarely stay in a commercial campground. They are too expensive and sites are too close together. Why leave home where I have space and go to a campground and park 10' from some other person, paying $30 or more for the spot. Cheap or cheep or frugal or whatever, I like the privacy and space of federal campgrounds. Just my kind of camping.

Rob,

I know of the golden passport, but at 59 I have to wait a bit.

I also love the national and state campgrounds. Most of the camping I've
done was in the northeast. Twice a year - early spring and late fall we
would tent camp in the Adirondack Forest in upstate NY. I remember a
caution sign while driving up that I will never forget... DEER CROSSING NEXT
300 MILES!

We were tent camping in a remote area for a long Columbus Day weekend in
1980. We woke up in the middle of the night by strong winds. Step out of
the tent into two inches of snow which was nearly blowing horizontal!
Packed up camp to head a little further south. When we got to the more
inhabited camping area I saw my first GMC up close. Older couple that
invited us in for coffee. Hooked ever since. It only took 29 years to get
one.

1980 was the year the winter Olympics were held at Lake Placid - where we
were camped - and then didn't get enough snow for the different events.
They trucked it in and made their own.

I have had gray hair since I was 40.
We once went to the Natchez National Historic Park when I had just turned 55.

We were driving our GMC. The ranger lady asked if I had a Golden Age passport.
I told her I didn't. She said that i could get one for $10. i said fine and paid her the $10.
She never asked for a driver's license. It was only later that I found out that you had to be 62 years old to get one.
So, I just used it for the next 7 years until i turned 62 and never once during that time did anyone card me.

Now, don't turn me in!

Like you, my hair started turning very early. I went into McDonald's just
after I turned 40 and was wearing a baseball cap. I ordered a cup of coffee
and gave the gal a quarter. She brought me a coffee and $.74 cents change
(tax). I looked at the change and said is this an early morning special and
she looked at me and said no it's your SENIOR COFFEE. Been drinking senior
coffee for 19 years! Sometimes I would size up the counter person before
asking for the senior deal.

Don't turn me in!

So, if I drive into one of these parks and they look at the GMC and then all
the gray hair you think they'll make me the same deal?
