My trusty Onan has a very slow leak straight down on the muffler. Its not coming from the oil filter. Before I tear into it further - any ideas?

I'm chasing a giant leak in mine that started virtually within one day. Previous leaks that I conquered included a leaky oil pressure switch--close to the oil filter mounting adapter, as well as loose governor housing bolts. It's been too hot for me to pull the flywheel off mine to see what has happened on the latest go around.

Tough to say as gravity puts all leaking oil on the muffler. The
three most common, and easiest to repair, are the oil filter adapter
gasket (make your own), the oil pressure switch (replace), and the
front seal.

Neil, Mine leaked at the oil filter adapter and the block. Onan has a improved gasket that they came up with. Pic here

I made one but it didn't last so I gave up and went to Cummins and bought one.

Cummins diesel bought Onan a few years back. I went to my local Cummins dealer and they had those gaskets in stock. Here is their website.

Onan Parts that are still available are on-line at M&D Mowers. Minimum order of $25 without paying a surcharge. You will need to have an accurate parts number. They have no parts breakdown. Cheaper than Cummings, even if packed in current cumming/Onan boxes.

Neil,
Majority f the time it is leaking from the oil filter mounting bracket that
has gotten loose.
Remove the side cover and go in with an extension and firm it up.
