Last night I thought I would tackle my high resistance on the neutral wire from the Onan problem one last time.
There is a junction box at the back of the generator compartment where the 120v wires from the Onan connect with the wire from the generator receptacle. I figured that would be the only place I could have a bad connection, otherwise I would have to replace the entire wiring to the receptacle.
Problem is, I could see it but not reach it, or reach it but could not see what I was doing! I did not have a hoist to remove the Onan, so I had to fix blindly. This is not new to me since installing and fixing two-way radios means alot of blind under dash work.
What I found was the neutral junction connector was loose. The junction was made using a slotted bolt type of connector that had a molded plastic cover for insulation. I've used this type of connector on ground wires on towers etc, but never seen a molded insulator for them. I also checked the hot wire connector for good luck and it was tight.
Getting the connectors back in the box and the cover back on was alot of fun.... and the new pup took advantage of situation to give me lots of puppy kisses while I was at it.. yucky!
Another Onan problem to add to the check list!

Awww.. how nice. Now you will need to train him/her to pee on the Onan when it has further issues. Make it pay attention.

A little late, but might be good for future referance:
You do not NEED a hoist to remove and reinstall the Onan. -- You have an adjustable suspension.
I put a cart under the Onan and blocked it enough to stablize it and strapped it down. To take the 4 bolts holding the Onan to the slides, I lowered the coach until the stress was off one bolt and removed it. Then did the same for the other three, raising and lowering as required. Reverse to install.
NOTE: Remove the outer bolts first and install them last to reduce the twisting and stress on the slides.
JWID... worked for my 6k.
OBTW: If you run the Onan while on the cart, ensure your "blocking" is clear of the muffler and down pipe. I started a fire!

I was in my junction box behing the gen set last weekend and was supprised to only find two hot lines and no neutral lines inside. I was expecting to find two hot lines, one neutral, and a ground. Has mine been modified or do I need to study the manual for a while?
