The talk about schrader valves in the airbags has stirred up an idea that has been floating around in my head. (Lots of (mostly useless) stuff floating around there!)
My thought: Install tank valves from the hardware store. Then use a high quality "female" schrader connector to connect to the air system.
If you have a problem with the air system (break a line or connection, loose a pump or valve) just disconnect the schrader connector and tie-up the line. Pump to the required ride height and go.
I have been keeping an eye out for a high quality "female" schrader connector that I would trust. (but really haven't started LOOKING yet.)
Note: The fittings on my old airbags seem to be frozen into the airbags. If that is the case when I am stuck by the road, the tank valves I carry in the tool box wouldn't be much help. Seems installing in the driveway would be "better."

Mike,
Would this limit you to "fill" only -- thereby loosing the ability to lower that air bag from the controls?

If we where talking "Presta valves"-- yes. But with Schrader valves, as long as the center pin is held down, the air can go both directions. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schrader_valve>

Will be interested to watch how you proceed -- your thoughts on the difficulty of installing schrader valves at-the-side-of-the-road is very valid.
