Have you checked Craig's list or ebay? Seems most of the Trackers/Sidekicks posted lately are in that area.

I use Search Tempest to search both. <http://www.searchtempest.com>

Just plug in the proper zip code like this:

< http://www.searchtempest.com/results.php?search_string=tracker&category=8&Region=na&cityselect=zip&location=38558&maxDist=50000&am p;region_us=1&srchType=T&showeb=1&keytype=adv&minAsk=&maxAsk=&subcat=cta>

You also want to search for "Sidekick."

If you find a good manual transmission one with a great price, I did notice an automatic transmission in "auto parts." Maybe mix and match to get what you want?

Thanks Mike: I`ll check it out. We have been checking local craigs list but found mostly rust and bad motors. Does It have to be 4x4 to tow? My friend is one of them that wants a USA emblem no mater who made it..And HER don`t do clutches.
As far as mixing and matching.. He says he is too old to turn wrenches any more, although he was here all day helping me do a-frame bushings..

There ARE automatics that can be towed four down. But 90’s era Trackers (Geo, assembled in Canada in the same plant as my Sidekick) with automatics NEED the transfer case, to put in neutral, to tow four-down. They really do not need the 4x4 front end for 4 down towing… but they are useful for other reasons. Note that two wheel drives with manual transmissions tow just fine… doesn’t help your friend. (Or me, my wife doesn’t “do” clutches either.) Also the earlier they are, the lighter they are.

Another interesting thing: Chiltons says that the transfer case is the same size as the tail piece on the rear of a two wheel drive's auto trasmission.

After owning a two door, I have found that a 4-door would be better for our uses. They do weigh a little more, but not as much as you would expect for the added space.

Is there an Automatic model 2wd Tracker that will tow 4 down without adding the transfer case?

Hey Chuck,

Your friend sounds like me (and my wife). My son keeps pointing out that our newly acquired Tracker looks "just like the 'Grand Vitara'" he sees in his neighborhood. I tell him "no way man, it's a Chevy, says so right on the front. You know I wouldn't ever drive an import!"

I don't know how far you want to go for one, but there are a few nice, low mileage, overpriced ones on the Tucson Craig's List right now.

If it's an Automatic, it does need to be 4WD to flat tow. I think Steve F. flat towed a standard trans. 2WD and got away with it.
