Hi, thanks for the helpful responses. I have found that the pressure at the line gauge is a function of how far the piercing valve is backed out. Learning that, I did commit my last can of duracool, pierced it, then backed out the valve only a little way, held the can upside down and drizzles most of that can in. The pressure at idle did go a bit over 25 psi and we once again have cool air at the dash. We will see how long it stays cold...... I have no high side gauge so don't know what that pressure is.

are you holding the can upside down when adding Duracool?

To properly diagnose this problem, you will need to get both high and low pressure readings. It is very possible to have a fairly good low pressure readings but way too low on the high side. The differential between the two will tell the story. You might be looking at compressor failure due to too high a low pressure or visa versa. Bottom line is you need to measure both sides. Also there is no such thing as a suction line, this is a misnomer.

Hi Jerry

I have done over thirty GMCs with Duracool. It takes just a little less than three full cans.

I have found consistently that the coldest is with about 20 psi at 1500 RPM with the air conditioner on high. Do a final test after you run the system for about 15 minutes. The 20 psi would be with an ambient temperature about 75 to 80 degs. If hotter than that you might get higher pressures.

The interesting thing about Duracool is that "less is more". The lower the pressure the colder it gets. However if you go below about 20 psi then you have the possibility of your evaporator freezing up with the water condensation. if this happens it will block the air going through the evaporator and into your interior.
Just turn the air conditioner off for a while and it will melt the ice.

I found this out when I had about 18 psi in my system. it worked great in Santa Fe with the low humidity but when I went to Louisiana it froze up until I put in a bit more Duracool.

So what would be the correct pressure setting for Duracool at Idle? Wouldn't that be easier than to try to set it at 1500 ??????
