I just pulled the dump valve. It is a Valterra 1003 valve. I may be wrong but this design looks like it will always leak fluid. There is no seal on top and bottom of the valve that came out of mine. Mine leaked fluid and I made a mess more than once. It looks like I cannot put another kind of valve in since the male part of the valterra valve looks to be glued into the tank. I will be dropping the black tank tomorrow to check and see why there is the tape on the back top of the tank.

I have always been hooked up so I have not have any tank leaks but I would like to be able to dry came without any problems so I would like to know if my tank has a problem. I always flush the tank when I get home until basically clear water comes out. I use a wand in through the toilet to make sure I loosen up what is in the tank.

My gauge for the tank black tank and the water tank dose not work. What gauges have been used in the tanks.

Thanks

The Valtera valves come with seals inside. It may be that yours has just worn out and went through your dump hose. I would suggest that you replace it with a new Valtera.

There is a magnetically coupled gauge that will not corrode. It fits right into the standard mounting flange. They also work with your original inside gauge.
Jim Kanomata at Applied GMC has them. http://www.appliedgmc.com/level.itml/icOid/479

At $120 each they are not cheap but they should last forever. He has a discount on shipping right now.

There should be a seal on each side. I've had Valterra valves on previous travel trailers and now on the GMC, they don't leak at all.

I have two Valterra 2 inch valves waiting for a macetor install on the Birch. (They are the same design as the 3 inch.) The seals are o-ring like that provide the seal for both the connection between the valve body/fitting AND the valve body/valve plate.

I could take a picture if you need it.

Just wondering, does anyone make an electrically actuated dump valve?

Yes, Drain Master. I installed one several years ago. It worked well for a couple of years but then it kept clogging and I had to crawl under the GMC to turn the screwdriver slot to open the gate. Then it stopped working altogether. Don't think that I would bother again.

G'day,

Here's a link to the Valterra Catalog.

http://www.valterra.com/RV/rv-main.htm

They sell an electric valve too - $221.00 - think I'll stick with the $14.66
manual one! ;-)

I have two 1003 valves on Double Trouble, one goes to the 3" dump the second
goes to the macerator.

They are actuated by 1/4" pull rods under the rear bumper:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=28382

I pulled the shaft out of the slider in the Valterra 1003 last year so this
year I put 1/4" drill stops on the rods which prevent that happening again.

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,

The valve can be bought for a much less expensive price although it
still is a lot.

Like you I still prefer an manual system.

JR,

Gee ONLY $159 what a bargain! ;-)

Frankly I really don't see the point of complicating the system.

You've got to put the dump or macerator line into a dump point and so you're
outside what's the difference in throwing a switch or pulling a "T" handle?
