[GMCnet] Only for iPhone/iPad Users [message #95862] |

A couple of weeks ago FileMaker released the iPhone and iPad versions of
their application. You can¹t do development work with it but you can load
customized databases from a development copy onto your mobile device and use
it without issue. You can add or delete data to your heart¹s content.
Two years ago I developed a maintenance database for tracking information on
my GMC. Just recently I also developed one for tracking mileage, fuel
consumption, and other notes. There's a field to enter the mileage and also
the hours on the generator so you can correctly figure your overall mileage.
On my last trip to Austin and San Antonio I entered mileage, hours, gallons
and other notes on my iPhone each time I stopped.
If you're interested in one of my customized data applications for use with
FileMaker Go, let me know. FileMaker Go is on the App store. It's $20 for
iPhone/iPod touch and $40 for iPad.
If there's interest, I'll offer my motorhome logger to you and work on
further development of the GMC maintenance solution for use by interested
individuals.
Shucks, if you'd like, I can also put together the Black List and a GMCMI
roster.
How cool, having those four files at your finger tips.
Ain't life grand?

What is 'Bento'?
Is that another version of a database?

Actually it is a very cool small database that can not only include Calendar and Contacts but pictures too.
The Bento metaphore comes from the compartmental boxes that Bento is served in at a restaurant. Each compartment can hold different data on the computer - but related. So a contact could be related to a number of photo's and calendar events, etc.
It's a Macintosh thing that ports well to the iPad. I have it, but have not taken the time to play with it. Everyone I know who uses it loves it.
