Since the part number was similar to the Hayden number I sort of assumed
it would be a Hayden in an Autozone box.

Nope.

"TORQFLO" embossed into the casting. "Made in China" inked onto it.

Lifetime Guarantee. I guess we'll see how it goes. I can get a real
Hayden if I need to...

Interesting--the 3 Hayden 2797 clutches I've seen all say made in USA, but given what we are seeing. maybe the Chinese unit will be better!

What Steve F writes in his Cooling System Basics info:

"Torqueâ€Flo (Autozone) fan clutches are made by Hayden
and the HD 2797 Torqueâ€Flo is made in China"

It doesn't have the same fin configuration as the Hayden-badged fan
clutch I took off, however.

Who knows. All that is important is that it works. Won't know that for
a week or so.

Kelvin

Along the same lines....I was talking to my mechanic about brake rotors. I asked about the Made in China cheapies. He told me there are certainly many poor quality products from China, rotors being one. But...there are rotors made to original specs from China and you will pay more for them but they are good.
Hopefully, the same will be said about fan clutches.

I think specifications are the key as you say. We buy many components from China and if you have good and complete specifications, you well get what you ask for. The OEM's discovered that years ago. Much of the aftermarket industry is much much looser than that! (or should I say loser)
