Go to Home Depot or something like that and buy a residential faucet - with
a long neck

Try putting them in without making a large hole.

Mary,
You might like to review kitchen remodels on the photo site -- here is one replacement faucet --
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=23151&title=counter-in-2c-with-under-mounted-oem-sink&cat=4864

The critical dimension (if you have an original sink) would be the existing holes.

What does JWID mean? Joe used his calipers to measure the OD of the threaded pipe on the original faucet and it is 1-3/16. We were told that Moen (the original faucets manufacturer)has a one hole installation faucet available but the one I purchesed from Lowes didn't work. Also, it isn't a goose neck and that's what we need. . .all Joe's big pasta pots, you know! I have attached a photo of the original after we removed it from the sink. The new one that didn't work is in the pic also.

What modifications did you need to do to install the Delta 182-SS

It fit with a little file work. Not so much that the stock faucet wouldn't mount back in if we didn't like the Delta. Very pleased with the new one.
JWID = just what I did, Richard Archer used to always post like that

Mary: I think I left a white ring binder ( factory service bulletins) at the shop. Please ask Joe to hang on to it till I get back.

Here is the photo; the threaded part that anchors the faucet to the cabinet/sink is much smaller on the new piece.

The faucet I have is a Moen. It looks kinda like the one Dennis has except it is a fixed nozzle (no hose that comes out of the head) I remember it came with a large mounting plate which I couldn't use. The store had an adapter ring (home depot)
that they sold separately so it could be mounted in the single hole and you then discard the metal plate. If you look closely at the photo Dennis posted you can see the adapter ring at the bottom of his faucet. This little metal type ring or washer will convert single type faucets for 1 hole instillation rather then 2 hole installation with the metal plate.
