My name is Frank and I am the PROUD owner of a 1978 GMC Eleganza II.

I am an advid football fan and I love to tailgate.About 2years ago I decided that for the ultimate tailgate experience you should have an RV.My first intention was to get somrthing road ready, but after reading, reseaching and lurking all the GMC MOTORHOME site my decision was really easy.Although my wife knew I had been thinking of obtaining one I she did not know I had purchased one until recently after paying on it for about a year.
I figured it was easier to ask to forgiveness than permission.

With title in hand I can tell you I have not been this excited in a long time and with NO mechanical knowledge whatsoever I look forward too what's ahead (TODAY).

Finally,I'd like to end with a little story.

When I first ran across this RV at the home of Mr.William Washington in CT, it had been sitting about 9 years and had alot of deteriation and water damage.Mr. washington told me it would run. We agreed on a price without me ever hearing it run.Being in automobile sales for over 20 years I am what I believe a very good at reading people and going with my first impression.I did not have all the monies at the time so I convinced him to take a non refundable deposit as good faith,Why? I think it actually had to do with the community of GMC owners and the willingness to HELP(Blackbook) others with GMC's ya gotta wanna be associated with a fraternity like that,The type of people ya don't see anyonmore.

Today I can say I am a part of that Fraternity.

With a charged battery and a little tinkering..."IT RUNS and everything works". I spoke with Jim Bounds about 15 minutes and he suggested I treat it like a 26 foot Corvette and have it towed due to the Dry rotted tires. Thanks Jim for taking time to talk with me.

I hope to meet people from this fraternity in the future and I look forward to obtaining the alot of knowledge as well.

Thanks for allowing me to ramble,

Frank

Well frank, it looks like you survived the moment when you said, "Honey, you won't guess what I bought for the two of us!" I did that once and it cost me a new kitchen!!! Anyhow, welcome to the club. I bought ours, a 1977 Eleganza II, to tailgate at Philadelphia Eagles home games. It's an expensive porta potty, but keeps the wife happy. When we're parked at an Eagles games amonst all the other forms of RV's, we draw accolades from the other fans for our Midnight Green and White Eagles mobile. Good luck and enjoy your acqusition.

Congrats Frank!
I too bought my GMC last September for the sole purpose of tailgating U of Michigan football games. I only had it ready for 1 game last year but it was a great time and the GMC held up great with 14 people on board! Shh, dont tell the cops.

Have fun, post lots of pics and use this forum for all your questions. Lots of great people on here with exceptional answers!

Welcome to the group. A little over two years ago, I acquired my GMC (off eBay), and started my restoration/refurbishment with the hope that I would be able to use and enjoy the coach.

As I love to tinker with mechanical devices, I've had the best time learning all the systems on the coach and upgrading it as I believe it's the best RV that was ever made (from a styling and handling standpoint). You'll find that the group is very knowledgeable, and as you found with Jim Bounds, willing to give advice and guidance to all newbies!

Hi Frank, when I first saw the Title of your post the first thing that went through my mind was " I'm a man of wealth and taste" but thats because i heard that Stones song this morning on the radio . . .

Welcome to the club. You got your work cut out for you. Bounds told you to treat it like a 26 foot corvette?!

Make sure you verify integrity of all 50 feet of gas line tubing, which will probably imply dropping the tanks. If you put that off don't put more than 5 gallons of gas in, until you do. We're averaging 2 fires a year or so, at least the ones we know about. These coaches leak gas badly when the fuel lines get old and cracked. New owners assume they can just fill it up, next thing you know gas leaks everywhere.

Make use of Gene Fishers website.

Rusty,When Jim made reference to the corvette,he was referring to the fiberglass and that if one of the tires blew it would do major damage!

Thanks to everyone else that has replied to this post thus far looking forward to establishing some quality long term relationships here.

Frank,

For most of my life, I have been a waterman (you know those crazy people out on the Sound), and there is a tradition that I have brought along.

When a new vessel arrives, there is a traditional greeting that I shall paraphrase here.

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those the set forth within her.

Welcome Frank

Frank,

Welcome - from another newbie. I guess I've been the proud owner of a 73
Glacier for over six months. I think it takes 10 years to mentally collect
all the information that get's passed around on this net. If you've been
lurking - then you already know that.

Did I hear there was an Eagles fan in here? GO GIANTS!!!

"May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those the set forth within her."

Matt - you blessed my coach when I got it. What a nice thing to do and what an unassuming way to invoke the protective hand of the Good Lord on our travels.

I am very appreciative of this gesture.
