Macerator has failed to pump anything. Motor spins, but nothing is pumped. I down loaded a sheet of instructions on macerator repair (installation of a repair kit). However, the model 19598 differs from the one in my coach a little. The exploded view shows a "chopper" at the end of the motor shaft. My macerator has a three pronged cast assembly, instead of a blade. Part of the instructions say to insert a slim ignition wrench behind the chopper. I don't see anywhere to slide the wrench, there does not appear to be any flats for a wrench to grab on to.
Unfortunately, the macerator has lost its data label, so I'm not exactly sure of make or model. I have a replacement impeller kit that is labeled Jabsco, and most of the parts and design seems to follow the exploded diagram for the Jabsco, so I suspect that it is a Jabsco.
I think that the impeller has failed.

Thank goodness for a 3" dump valve, or this would be much worse than it already is. Sad

Whew, now let me tell you I have done this a few times on the Jabsco. The rubber impellor loses its teeth. On is ok but if you lose two in a row you are stuck.
Can you get a slim pair of pliers behind the chopper to hold the shaft? Really not necessary tho as you can stick a screwdriver in the opposite end of the shaft to hold it.
Tom, email me if you have any problems. I have experience, ha.

Thanks for the input. I went back and looked with a brighter light. The wrench actually grabs on the flat spot, that Jabsco put on the motor shaft. So, I was able to disassemble and reinstall a new impeller. The old impeller appeared to have lost its shape after being installed sometime prior to 1988. Hope this cures the little devil. Otherwise, the suggestion from Gene will be the solution.

If you junk it, let me know. I will buy it if it is a Jabsco.
Jim K. keeps kits that will rebuild the thing. It even comes with the plastic case.

I suspect the fact that we use our coach a lot in the winter has something to do with them breaking. I have had the macerator freeze up several times. I can swap mine out in 5 minutes now with no dripping.

Tom Phipps,

Tom, you could also have a blockage in the tank. i have one of those 90 deg. 3" adapters that i can hook a water hose up to and back flush the tank and clear any blockage.

I just went through the same thing, only after 2 weeks of dry
camping.....stopped to dump and when I turned on the macerator all the smoke
came out of the motor and we all know that's it's the smoke that makes all
electrical stuff work, cuz whenever the smoke comes out of anything electrical
it usually doesn't work anymore.

I bought a new Johnson Macerator on Ebay for $99 included shipping, had it in 2
days.

Interesting things is that we have a 3" dump valve and no hose.....so we had to
stop at about 6 dump stations until we found one with a BIG concrete
bowl.....put a rock on the sewer cover to keep it open, backed the GMC over the
bowl and pulled the valve and slowly let it drain......hosed everything down
really good before we left. We're going to buy the connector fitting and a
hose to keep in the coach as a "just in case".

Not sure I would want to do the rebuild, pretty nasty job just replacing the
whole thing let alone take the pump apart.

I have a 20 or 25 amp fuse in mine. It is just whatever I can grab at the time. I have blown a few. I have mine fused in the main house fuse box.
