Just wondering if anyone else is going to the FMCA rally next week in
Redmond, OR? We will be there as representatives for the GMC 49ers and would
like to get together with any other GMCers that might be there.
Let us know,

Bert and Fay,

Last I heard Kerry Tandy would be there for the Western States and Dan Gregg would be there for Eastern States.

Had planned to be there but my wife is still in intensive care, I think some
of the Cascaders are going to attend, check their website.

Hey;

We're not going to make the FMCA rally as we will be over on the
Oregon Coast doing some buggying from the 10th until the 15th. I heard
that you might be stopping by GeneF's place on the way back home.
Diana and I will be heading down to CA via 101 and was hoping to stop
by and check out those buggy tops on our way down. Any idea when you
might be getting home?

On another note, it is possible that when my wife returns home she will be
somewhat handicapped. I am entertaining converting a GMC to include
handicapped access. Has anyone ever removed the rear panel and fitted a
coach with a lift? How about a lift on the co-pilots chair from the main
floor up to the normal place it lives? Bathroom? Railings?
I would consider doing a seminar on this in the future. Please let me know
either on the GMCnet or off net at jamesh1296@gmail.com Thanks.

Dave Lowry of Santa Barbara, CA was confined to an electric wheel chair. He installed a rail down the ceiling of his motorhome with an electric lift that would lift him from the chair and allow him to use the tube in the rear and the toilet area. I believe that he slept in his chair. The rail was bolted through the roof.

He also had a ramp that would connect into the doorway and let him drive the chair up and down the ramp.

Dave passed away in 2002 and his wife sold the GMC to someone else but I don't know who bought it.

I know that Tom Hampton in Ohio has modified a coach for wheelchair access through a rear side door - where the propane compartment is on my Palm Beach. It was for sale last October, but maybe he would be a good resource to talk with about this kind of thing.

Jim, I recall years ago at GM we had an engineer that had certain handicaps. He was a great influence on many of our designs, and guess what--most of his ideas were great ideas for all of us! Sometimes a perceived handicap can be a great advantage!!

Larry,

Good to know there will be more of us GMCers.
Think Chuck Garton will also be there for the Pacific Cruisers.
We might make it before the 5 pm cutoff on Sunday, but might not make it
until Monday morning. Keep an eye out for us and if you are parking in the
Governing Board area, let the parking crew know that we are coming.

Thanks,

Bert and Fay

When and Where? I cannot seem to find this Rally listed. Perhaps it already happened? I will be in Oregon next week and would like to attend.

When I was down at the Coop RESORT, I know Jim Bounds has had some knowledge of an opening rear panel. I think he actually rebuilt one to open for someone.

He'd be the one to ask questions, I think.

Hope your Mrs will be better soon...

LarC ( liking the rear panel to open but going to let that one stay on the list awhile. )

Thanks, I'll check with him. The way her condition is improving, she might
not need it but I appreciate the concern. She still is in intensive care.
Probably will go to Rehab on Mon or Tue.
