Someone had mentioned that it's difficult to find a 9 lb radiator cap. I was at my local parts store today and they had it in stock. It's a Federated T-9. Nice octagonal shape, too.

My '75 - '76 manual says a 9 lb cap. If you have the aluminum radiator, and are certain that your heater core and water heater can take the pressure then you might be okay. On the other hand your 16 lb cap might only hold 9 lbs!

I agree. I have heard that the type of radiator our rigs have is not built for over 9 lbs.

Auto Zone has that same 9 pound cap with octagon shape. It is very easy to remove compared to the OEM Delco one.

I have the aluminum radiator but still stayed with the 9 pound cap since my coach ever gets hot enough to need the additional pressure to prevent boiling.

I'm also running a 180 degree thermostat so the engine normally runs cooler with no vapor lock problems.

Did I hear somewhere that these caps have a short life span
and should be replaced every few years?

Yes, you heard it hear from Emory Stora. Make sure you get no more
than a 9lb cap.

By the way - my new 9 lb radiator cap was all of $4 and change. Might be something to put on the maintenance schedule - change cap, hoses, and coolant every other year...
