Saw a 1976 EII for sale in Black Canyon City today for $9K. Looks like a lot of work went into it. I'll post pics and the phone number later. Was a lot nicer than my coach was when I bought it.

Sorry for the delay. 9 photos here including some contact info. I have not contacted the owner. Just passing this along. Looked like a nice coach.

That gives rise to a question for me.

I have looked at a number coaches for sale that say engine replaced x miles ago. Since they are not bragging that it is a Jasper or from Jim or where ever, I'm guessing most come from an old Toro?

It has been discussed here that the valve covers and the carbs are different. What else? Would a decent old Toro 455 be a viable replacement in a coach? Or just a block to be rebuilt?

There are lot's of sources for rebuilt engines--if indeed they are rebuilt. One of my local friends had his rebuilt in Chandler AZ and so far so good. You will also see that phrase used when a junk yard engine is installed. On the other hand, depending on your prowess, I think that hundreds of good and viable alternatives exist. One problem with any vehicle forum is that over time, everyone gravitates to a single "mandatory" solution. The single GMC international rally I went to was wonderfull in that less than 1/3 of the folks were on the net and weren't inhibited by the "mandatory" solutions. I saw it all and there were many folks totally enjoying their GMC's with plain old ingenuity.

Thanks Bob

This Black Canyon City, 76 Eii that Chr$ has found had it's engine replaced 6,000 miles ago. If that is not rebuilt but a junk yard Toro motor,

how is it different from a coach motor?

Different cam for more or lower end torque? Was the advertised torque of a Toro less than the coach?

Thanks again, I'm still a big fan of Chandler even though both sons have moved, one to Gilbert, one to TX.

There are others here that can probably answer those questions better than i can, but here is a great site to go to:

http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofe403.htm#E403%20403CIDEngineDetail

Go to the bottom of the page and you will see appropriate links.

Yup, I definitely love Chandler, but these days it's difficult to tell when one city starts and another stops.
