Does anyone out there know where I can get new head bolts for my '76 455 Palm Beach? Local shop said didn't need new bolts but upon torquing them to the 85 ft lbs called for one snapped, came out ok but would like to get all new bolts anyways. The bolts I see online don't seem to have the threads on top for the first 2 on each side that mine has. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Mary,
I used ARP head bolts except for two (of the four) locations where the threads extend above the top of the bolt and there I re-used the old bolts.

Mary,
(Not a common name for one snapping off head bolts.) Did you run a
clean up tap through the bolt holes prior to threading in the head
bolts? Did you cleant the threads on the bolts prior to reassembly?
Also, a small bit of assy lube under the bolt head will prevent
galling and give a more realistic torque readings. Those bolts should
be able to be reused at least three times before they're stretched
beyond service. Make sure you have the right bolt in the right hole.

I bought my ARP at Summit, but be careful as some 455's used different sizes of bolts. Take some old ones w/you.

Thanks for the info. Did as you suggested new bolts ordered, should be here 8/4. Not sure when we will try to finish up engine job. P. S. Mary, may not be a common name for one snapping off head bolts, but you may be surprised at what I do for a living.

Mary: it is my understanding that the head bolts with the threads on top are no longer available new. Joe Mondello has some used ones.
