Well, I finally did it. For better or for worse, I bought John Sharpe's 78 Royale. He's going to deliver it to Americus.

From all accounts it is a pretty decent GMC. I look forward to working on some "little" things and hoping to dodge the big bullet. Maybe I can keep this thing rolling with a little help from Ken Henderson.

Excellent news! Congratulations on the new coach and many happy hours of tinkering with it.

Maybe even a few miles of fun, too!

Good for you Stick, that is one nice Coach. You will love it, get your
pocketbook ready, mine is almost empty, but I would not trade my GMC
for anything. :-)

Stick,
I'm sure you will be happy with your choice. I've know John for quite a few
years
and if I had been looking I would have bought his coach myself. Like Carlo
said,
"You did your home work and shopped around". You should not have a lot of
expense keeping this one on the road.

Stick,

I had written you off. You've surprised me. That's good news. Now, about
joining GMCES ---

You got the model I didn't know existed. From the looks of the photos, you
may be able to fit on the dinette. Ha!

Now, about the big bullet thing -- that's and old ceiling I see in place.
Add that to the list of "little" things. Oh, the microwave needs to be
relocated. You can get more counter space if you replace the stove. The
light fixtures are OK. Lucky you. Does it have a macerator, electric wipers
and cruise?

OK. I'll stop. Welcome to the fold.

By the way, you didn't really want a Wanderlodge. It's just a bigger money
pit.

Byron,
Stick,

Never say never or give up on someone buying a coach. I monitored this net
for almost a year chasing down every GMC that was mentioned for sale. Guess
you could say I was a real lurker. It's not easy trying to decide on
exactly what you want. When I first saw how many floor plans there were and
models, I picked a floor plan that I liked and an EL II. Well, since there
was nothing that ever showed up close to me, I bought a locally available
Glacier - with a different floor plan. Just what happens.

But, along with you and the other's I welcome Stick (who used to be skinny)
to the fraternity.

That looked like a darn nice coach. Good luck, but I hope you don't
need it. John is a top notch mechanic so I'm sure all will be well.

Desmond,

That's a great story! How many did you tour? I bought this one for $3,000 and it needed an engine. I did put mine up for sale briefly shopped around before starting to restore (restore = empty bank account and sell 1 car) Carbon Footprint. The $ was about equal, but I also had to add the labor which was fine for the peace of mind knowing everything is fresh. No regrets(anymore). Stick and you did the right thing. I did not know about this site until after the purchase.

Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words. I think I bought just what I wanted, except for the length of the rear beds. My wise-ass brother said to take a sawzall and cut two holes in the passenger side closet. John Sharpe has already devised a brilliant fix for this problem. Until I get over the sticker shock I'll get to work on this. Until then, it is dinette city for me.

I didn't need a big project. I made up my mind I was going to wait for an Edgemont (77" twins), but really wanted the latest model I could get. This one can be made into a suitable sleeper, I believe.

The most important thing was the confidence that was instilled in me by contributors to this site, both locally and afar, and a couple of phone calls. To the last one, they had high praise and character and mechanical ability and truthfulness of John Sharpe. I look forward to meeting him and seeing my new coach.

Stick, John,

From the pictures.... Nice coach! It is the kind of buy that makes you wish
you had a pile of cash waiting for the right coach.

I really like the modification of the bathroom. Enlarging the doorway and
turning the stool sideways, making the hallway into part of the bathroom,
but only when using "the room." I have been thinking of this modification
for my "keeper" coach.

Stick, Welcome to the obsession.
