Randall,
1. It's easier to understand
2. It can consolidate all of your email traffic so you have only one
interface to remember
3. It threads messages by subject, not some hidden header entry, so that
pirated threads don't (usually) cause disconnects or pollution.
4. It makes all past messages immediately accessible using the great Google
search routines.
5. Lots more ...

6. It works when the web based forum is down.
7. It is accessed through a web based forum just like the web based forum. (Good for multiple computer users. ie: home, work, other person's computer, library computers... you get the idea. )
8. I understand you can access it through pop3 with a regular mail program. (Never tried it.)
The only thing you "loose" by not using the web based forum, is the ability to have different sub-forums. Currently we only use the main forum and the "swap meet." So it isn't much "lost" ... unless there where sub-forums added... towd forum, Fuel injection forum, "GMC cousins" and the like.
Note that there isn't anything stopping you from using both... even if only to check the swap meet.
But I think that the original post in this thread was sent by mistake. (You might also loose the little smiley faces when not using the web forum.)
