This Fall's GMCMI Convention will be held from September 26 to Oct. 2 at DuQuoin, IL. You can also come for early nights.
DuQuoin is easy to get to. It is about 75 miles North-East of St. Louis, MO. , midway between Decatur, Bloomfield and Springfield, IL and just off Interstate 55 about midway between St. Louis and Chicago.
This should be an excellent convention. Ray Swartzendruber and Kimberly Weeks are jointly managing this convention and then Kim will be taking over the future conventions on her own.
As usual, you don't have to be a member of GMCMI to attend. Members will get the application with their July newsletter. For those of you that are not members, you can visit the GMCMI web site to download the application. http://www.gmcmi.com/ It is on the first page. Just click on it and download it or print it out.
Although you don't have to be a member, or even own a GMC to attend, we have found in the past that most non-members that have attended usually sign up for membership at the Convention or soon after. Only $30 a year to become a member and in addition to the four quarterly newsletters you get the GMCMI Parts Interchange booklet each year that is well worth the cost of membership alone!
Come and join us and get to meet a lot of the people whose postings you have been reading on the GMC net.
Many vendors will be there from all across the country so you can talk to them and see their wares on display.
There will be a lot of good technical seminars and there will also be a lot of things for your wives to do.
I am sure that you will have a GREAT time.

Oh yea, but watch Emery's directions. Might get you lost, ha. This one is
coming together really good, I hear. It is close to lots of people that have
never been to a convention. We are hoping you can attend. Some of you have
not been to one in a while, here is your opportunity. Get your computer GPS
program out and find your best route. This one is going to be a real blowout
so come on over. Should you not have a coach yet, come on anyway as there is
always some nice looking ones for sale at the conventions.

Hold on, partner. DuQuoin ain't anywhere near what you say. You must have
come up with another French-sounding town in what we locals call "Central
Illinois".
DuQuoin (also spelled Du Quoin) is southeast of St. Louis. It is west of
Interstate 57 near Benton, which is also in Southern Illinois. It is also
south of Interstate 64. The jumping off spot is Ashley, an even smaller town
that DuQuoin. DuQuoin is also north of Carbondale where the first campus of
Southern Illinois University is located.
However, if you get near Springfield then be sure to stop in at the new
Lincoln museum. Decatur is where the St. Louis Cardinals used to hold spring
training back in the 1930s. I can't say much for Bloomfield as I've never
been there. It's probably about like Paris or Pontiac.
Back to location: I-64 and I-57 intersect at Mt. Vernon, Illinois. DuQuoin
is southwest of there.

Well, you are right. The crazy thing is that I had typed SouthEast of St. Louis but then when I went into maps.ask.com and put in DuQuoin it plotted it exacted as I had described it so I just assumed I had it wrong and put down the description on the map it gave me.
I know perfectly well how to spell it.
So my suggestion is not to use maps.ask.com !

Emery, thanks for starting the thread. No one is going to get lost. It is an easy place to get to. As I have said before, Hiway 51 is a great 2 lane. It is scenic and will normally save you a few miles, depending on where you are coming from. Carbondale, to the south, is easy to navigate. The n/s lanes are split by a block, with 2 lanes, each way, going through the stoplights. I would not get off of I-57 at Marion. That is one busy road between the two cities. Just pick your own route. All is good in South Illinois except for the troopers. Run the speed limit. Especially around Cairo.

Troopers can also be spotted regularly after entering Illinois from Indiana
on I-64. They get angry when your 8 over and they've had a rough week in
court.
I agree with Dan, unless you like stop-and-go, don't get off at Marion if
coming from the south on I-57. Anyplace else is better.
