I have to admit that I've been lazy when it comes to routine maintenance and visual inspection. My recent fan clutch and fuel line episodes forced me to get under the engine cover and look around. As a result I found I needed new fan, generator, AC belts. In the process of doing that, I discovered that the generator belt was rubbing on the upper radiator hose. I then realized that when the engine was hot, the hose would get rigid and move away from the belt, but when it cooled down, it would collapse and rub on the belt. That led me to a defective radiator cap. Additionally I was able to reposition the hose a bit by loosening it at the thermostat housing and rotating it up a bit. Sometimes these failures can bring other looming problems to light. I don't mind fixing stuff, but would rather do it at home rather than at the side of the road!

"" Ha Ha--I think I've probably done a bit too much of that! That's the kind of little failure that's bound to strand me on the side of the road one of these days in 110F heat Smile
