Anyone here have the Harbor Fright "Nitrous" gauges like the one here:

http://www.harborfreight.com/2-inch-led-lit-tachometer-98480.html

They look nice, are priced well, and with the 20% coupons, might be worth a look. with everything being made in China these days, these probably are not any worse than what is usually available out there.

I installed that one on my coach when the LCD on the digital tach I had froze during the winter. It works good enough, would be better if the range was lower. In-store price had been $20, but maybe it has gone up in the last couple of months.

One thing I don't like about it is that the LED light resets every time, so when you turn the lights back on, you have to push the little button to get the LED light turned on each time.

As long as you don't really care if the gauges are accurate, what the
heck. And why would you want an 8000rpm tach for a motor that seldom
sees 4000rpm?

Personally, I'd spring for VDO or Autometer.

I was wondering about the lighting. would drive me nuts having to reset that unless they came up in blue as the default...

I just purchased and installed a full set of these two weeks ago. They all work great except the tach. love the color changing LEDs!

On the ones I bought, there's a wire that goes to a constant hot which allows them to retain the color settings.

Chris,

I bought all of them and if time permits they'll be installed in Double
Trouble while I'm here at Jim B's shop.

PS - The Blue Streak has a full compliment of VDO gages.

In our application, accuracy is not much of an issue, and you can tell the meter it is attached to a 4cylinder engine and halve the reading (and pocket 40+$).

Hmmm... It's the tach I'd most likely use first. Halving the scale is a good idea.

Don't know about anyone else but I barely look at the tach. I tend to
drive by the Vacuum Gauge with a fairly constant eye on the Oil Pressure
and Water Temp.

And yeah... a 4000rpm VDO tach is about $75. I wanted it to match all
my other gauges and I DO care that they're accurate.

I just remember the cheap "Equus" gauges from the 80s/90s. I'd never
trust one of those and I'll bet the Harbor Freight gauges aren't any
better. But for a tach on a GMC - when all you want to see is whether
it's running or not - I guess it would be fine.

I picked up a complete collection (separately) of Autometer guages used on eBay for less than the new HF china goods. Some for less than $10. I've only had one Autometer gauge go bad over the years, but they replaced the guts no questions asked and returned it with an apology for my trouble. I'll trust HF for a prybar but not to monitor my engine. JWID

My thoughts entireley Kelvin, why would you risk the health of an expensive to replace motor to some cheapo guages that would be more appropriate in a clapped out kids Honda Civic.

I have VDO guages in my Motorhome, I have found Stewart Warner guages are accurate and work well also.
