Dash a/c ? non GMC
The compressor on my 1994 suburban is very noisy. I disconnected it so I can at least use the blower. It is a factory 134 system, with axial 4 compressor. I have been using Duracool for about 3 + years, with very good results.
A friend of mine gave me a good axial 4 compressor. However it was used in a Freon 12 system. I drained out about 1 oz of oil, but there is residual oil clinging to the inner surfaces that will not drain. I know the best thing to do will be buy another compressor. BUT money is tight. The good compressor is on the bench and the pulley can be turned by hand to make it cycle.
1.
Is there a chemical (that won’t hurt the compressor and the rest of the system) that can be put into the compressor, hand cycled and then drained, that will clean out the residual oil?
2.
Would the residual oil clinging to the inner surfaces be enough to damage the system when it mixes with the 134 oil?

I can remember a time when at a GM training session on 1985 "C" cars
including transverse mounted diesels when the Tech had a 25# cannister of
R12 turned upside down with a valve and hose with an air nozzle attatched to
the hose. Let me tell you, that stuff really cleans GM fuel injectors. But
times have changed and R12 is no more. There are aerosol purge and clean
chemicals available, some work OK, some clean your wallet nicely and nothing
else. There are several others much more knowledgeable than me on purge and
evacuate where other refrigerants and mineral and ester oils are cleared
from the system.

I am not an Air-conditioning service man. I don't think you will
have a problem with the minor amount of oil left in the
compressor it is the oil that has migrated into the rest of
the system that I would be concerned with. I know you can
flush the system with Berryman B12 Chemtool and blow out the
lines. You should also clean and blow out the condenser and the
evaporator, Replace the drier and all "o" rings and seals with
parts that are compatible with the oil you use with the R134.
Vacuum the system for at least an hour if you do try flushing things
as you definitely want to get any moister out of the system
that you might have gotten in while cleaning.

Wayne, i remeber when we started using those radial R$ compressors. They were developed to be "thin" and packaged well for transverse engines, but they were extremely noisy and we never did get them right.
