OEM dash AC selector switch cable to blower box broke [message #92233] Fri, 16 July 2010 20:00 Go to next message

As the title says it's broken. My questions are:
1. When the dash AC switch is on should the blower box lever be pushed forward or backward? I don't remember which way the selector switch moves the lever on the side of the blower box.

2. The cable is no longer connected to the switch. I can't even figure out where it connected. Is there a fix or replacement?

Thanks,
Tom

OK guys. The main thing I need to know is when you have your dash AC turned on, the blower box under the hood, on the driver's side is a cable attached to a pivoting arm. Is the cable pushing the arm forward or pulling it backward?
Sorry I over expained.
Tom

I think this photo, and the two that follow, will answer your question on the lever position for hot or cold.

Wish I could help on the second question, The control may have a broken pin (mine did) but I didn't take any photos of it that I recall, and no longer own a coach.

What happened on mine is that the retainer that holds the outer cable housing to the control head broke allowing the outer housing rather than the inner to move. It's a hokey setup and I merely wired the outer housing to the retainer. It's held a couple of seasons so far, but I have to admit that in AZ I probably only move it once a year anyway Smile

That is what I needed to know since my cable broke loose from the switch.

Tom,
Turn on the air full blast and someone move the control arm back and
forth. In the AC mode you should feel cold air.

Tom,
The lever opens and closes a door inside the HVAC
When it is all the way forward toward the front of the coach
you should get cool air. When it is pulled back toward the
back of the coach it closes the cooling section and directs
the air up to the heater core.

There are several pictures that show the door. If they don't
help you let me know what you don't understand.
Charles

More pictures of the dash control where the other end of the cable attaches.

For those of you who are headed for GMCWS Fall rally in Las Vegas
later this year, I'll be giving a tech seminar on "Why my AC doesn't
work". I'll be using a stand alone HVAC box out of a GMC that's been
bead blasted, regasketed and painted. If someone wants it at the end
of the rally, you may have it. Good blower, heater core and
condenser. This is an excellent training aid and could also be put
back into service.
