My plan for the countertop extension is to store the extension in the
upright position. It will be hinged and the same thickness as the
countertop so when it drops down it will sit level with it - the extension
support will ride just under the countertop. When in the upright position
it will somehow (no firm plan yet but probably the latch will be on the
bottom of the upper cabinet) latch in place and be somewhat decorative on
the bottom - a clock or a picture or ...?

I will be getting to that in the next couple of weeks. Pictures as I make
progress.

In other words, the two "fork tines" (front and
rear pieces) and the base (right side) of the
slide-out fixture will then surround the sink
and water fixtures?

Clever idea, for sure, and almost certain to be
widely copied!

You've got it - the sink does not have holes for faucet, etc. so I can put
them anywhere I want or need to.
