Netters,
I get many calls asking for recommendations on GMC related stuff. I
don't recommend folks unless I've had a good experience with them, or
someone I trust has had the same.

Based on some postings I have read here, I recommended Harry's to a
GMCer and he has really been getting a bad deal. He ordered a box,
they charged his card, no more word until he finally managed to get in
touch with a real person vice an answering machine. To make a long
story short, after much bantering back and forth, they said they
shipped it and provided a UPS tracking number. The number was tied to
a package that only weighed one pound. No more contact, they are not
returning calls or emails. Is there anyone near Frasier that can go
over there and knock on the door during business hours. If so,
contact me off net and I'll give you the details. I just hate it when
crap like this happens but hate it most when I was the source of the
recommendation.
TX,

Steve,

Just have the GMCnet contact the credit card company and present the
information he has and I'll bet Harry will get communicative!

It's not me Rob, but I feel some responsibility as I was the one who
recommended the guy. Unless there's a good reason for the behavior,
it's been very shoddy in my opinion.

Steve,

I used Harry's service about three years ago and was pleased with his Steering Box rebuild. It took about five weeks to complete, however he stated that time frame to me when I first contacted him.

Well that's a shame. I know you don't treat this lightly Steve. I suspect he may have been a decent guy that got caught up in the dismal Michigan economy. For various reasons I still need to go back several times a year and each time I'm still stunned by what has happened to that state and the once decent small businesses there. Certainly no excuse on his part.

You're right, I missed it-- sorry.  I bet though that they are pulling their
hair out, I pulled mine out over it.  So they are either in overload and can't
get to even a phone call, they lost the box or they just don;t know what they
are doing.  Either way I have respect for them and I'd give them a chance to do
the right thing.  It's always good to work at helping folks do their best.  If
you really feel they are evading the issue then that a different kettle of
fish.  They are in a difficult business, one that I do not get involved with
anymore.  I've found no one who can increase the reliability of rebuilding a
steering box-- and stand behind you if something goes wrong.  There's just no
win rebuilding those things.

I have an extra steering gear that needs rebuilding. If the steering box in question here has been lost, I'd donate this one I have to the person needing one, and in turn give "Harry" another chance. it's just gathering dust in my garage anyway.
