Traveled from Jackson to Rock Springs, WY. Most of trip was above 7,000 ft. Tightened alternator belt before departure. Left RV Park at 11:30 AM. Noticed engine took over 30 miles to reach normal operating temperature. Then went up and down with engine load. But peaked at 195F. Fan clutch seemed to run constantly and not disengage.

About 30 miles from Rock Springs, there was a sudden drop in fan noise and the generator light came on. Drove a couple of miles before I came to a place where I could get off the road. Sure glad I had two belts driving the water pump. Temperature stayed normal.

Re-installed the alternator belt and drove into Rock Springs. Got a site at the Rock Springs KOA. Price was about ½ the Virginian RV park.

Mileage – 192

Vapor Lock – None

Temperature - 85F

Darn, Jim!

I know you're getting tired of replacing belts! Should have it down to a
science now though. :-)

With that kind of luck, I'd be spending all my idle mind-minutes devising a
serpentine belt system to install ASAP.

Gene,
I have the correct bracket and the belt is in alignment.

I think it has something to do with the belts and maybe a fan clutch. I installed an alternator belt in 2001 shortly after I purchased the coach and it lasted until 2004. I don't know how many miles I put on the belt, but it included a couple of round trips from WA to San Diego (2200 miles) Texas to GA to WA, San Diego to GA
and had no problems. The replacement belt went from Nebraska to WA, SD and return, WA to LA to Vegas to WA. Nothing has changed except the belts. The 15570 is listed on your site. The 15572 is shorter and hard to get on but is same width.
Jim

I know you are very good about doing "stock" configurations, so I was sure
you had checked the alignment.

One other possibility, is the pulley on the alternator is worn and the belt
rides in the bottom of the pulley. A little hard to check, but even the
correct belt will ride at the bottom of the pulley in that case.

When the pulley is correct the belt rides high in the slot, (even with the
top of the slot , and maybe even over the top of the pulley).

good luck

Top of belt is higher than top of pulley.
