Back on 4 April some of you may remember that we bought Ed Burner's coach and had it at Miguels for a look over and update. We decided to have a fresh engine done for it and to change the final drive to 370's. We had a gracious offer from a net member to drive it to NY for us for expenses. We had hoped to pick it up ourselves and then things got delayed with a cracked block during the rebuild. We missed our window of opportunity to pick up the coach and then the window for the net member passed and the coach still was not ready. After the third engine configuration Miguel got one he was happy with and it is now in our coach and running just fine. Miguel has now put us in touch with a coach owner who is looking for a trip east and they will leave northern Calif on the 24th. Miguel will bring the coach up to them at Jim K's. That should allow for a lengthy trip for Miguel to make sure all is well with the coach. So now it looks like we will finally get to see what we bought four months after we actually bought it Cool

Let's hope all goes well!

I move (drive) about one or two coaches coach per year from east to west or the reverse direction, west to east for someone. One was Northwest to Southeast.

Usually, but not always, they are are GMCs.

I do it for gas expenses only. I do it because I have the time and I like the trip. I can take my time getting there, and it helps someone out.

My coach came from California. It got out of state before it was the popular thing to do. I did not move it or buy it there. A PO bought it there and brought it to Illinois.

Let see, Here are some I've moved:

Michigan to California
California to Michigan
Mass. to Indiana
California to Ohio
Washington (state) to Florida
Conn. to Texas
Salt Lake to Florida
California to Michigan
Michigan to California (different coach)

Someday I'm going to figure this out. Why is the grass always greener on the opposite side of the country?

I once had an 82 toyota pickup with a 22R engine. I bought it off a kid for a hundred bucks. The engine rattled, the bearings were so bad it sounded like a diesel. I drove it for almost a year like that till I decided I had pressed my luck enough. I took it to Mancinis in south philly for a rebuild. They said, 10 days. Two weeks later i called, they were still on it. Two weeks later, I get a call from the shop foreman. He says, 'its done, but it don't sound right. I hear somethin. I wanna do it over, but I know you want it back so its up to you' DUH. I said go ahead do it over. I had it back 6 weeks later. So it took them 2 and a half months. That engine woke that truck up, lemme tell you. I drove it another 5 or 6 years until the rusted frame got so bad the passenger seat was fallin thru the bottom and the beam on the right side was so bad, my mechanic who would pass the thing for me after I body puttied it up every year said, no more, its time. How do you get rid of a junk pickup with a new engine. I put an ad on Craigs list for a rebuilt 22R engine, and oh by the way its still in the truck so you can drive it home and pull it out. Only had 8k on it, I asked 600 bucks. Guy from New Jersey called me, needed an engine. The truck had been sitting in the driveway my wife wanted it gone, I told him he can have it for 4 if he takes the truck away today. He did, she was happy, i was up 4 bills, and the guy got a pretty fresh rebuilt 22R for cheap. Everybodys happy.

That sounds like fun although I have read some of your trip reports and some were a real experience. I sure would like to do that for someone. I really enjoy driving and to have such an opportunity would be a blessing, (I think) <bg>

You are welcome to come but we are not doing a non-stop. I enjoy doing the trip. 400 miles or less per day is my pace. If there is something interesting along the way I stop and see it. I stop always have a decent dinner somewhere.

If the trip starts somewhere near me, I always bring the coach here for a few days and go over it to make sure nothing is wrong with it. I fix the minor stuff. I have never had a major problem.

As you can see my pace is not quick and the owners are not usually in that much of a hurry.

I like your pace. Things move fast enough. Take time, smell the roses, see
the sites, and eat the food.

Yes, I always add a couple of extra days in my plans so I can return at my leisure. What is the rush? It is kind of like going to rallies. I can never understand why people show up days early but have to get out of there headed home immediately on Sunday morning or even Saturday afternoon. I believe it is so they do not have to hang around and help clean up.

Personally, I've got to go to work the next day. wish I could retire and have all the happy time in the world but alas-its not going to happen for quite awhile. And when it looks like I'll finally be able to retire, SS will be belly up and there will be HUGH cuts in benifits so I,ll probably have to keep workin forever. What does this have to do with GMC's? Can't travel in my GMC like I'd like to or make as long a trips. Still dreamin of 4-6 week long trips,,,o-well,,,,,PL

I am not sure just yet what route they will be taking. I know they talked about Yellowstone and stopping in Indy for a couple of days, then on to Niagara Falls before rolling into our place in the Adirondacks. Beyond that I think they plan to go where the wind blows them.

What a great plan - basically no plan - but taking it easy. If anything is
needed in the I-40 area near Memphis or within 100 or 200 miles, I'm on the
Black list.

Yes - make sure whomever is doing the trip has the blacklist and the vendors list with them.

Based on phone calls to Miguel yesterday and calls we received tonight, our coach will be leaving Calif no later that the 25th of July. The driver expects to take about 10 days but they have yet to book their return flights yet. All we can say is that we hope we like it when it gets here Laughing

We would like to do the GMC Noreaster rally in Canaan Me on 13-15 Aug but can't make any committments since we do not have an exact date for arrival of our coach. We do plan on going to DuQuoin the end of September and would like to have a "local" rally under our belts before heading to the big show.
