What have those who have installed hardwood or vinyl flooring done with the raised floor in the back of the coach? Is it a removable platform or something that must remain? Did you just re-carpet it or what?

Thanks everyone for all the good info. My main concern was that the raised floor was put in then the cabinet and bed framing built on top of it (Royale rear twin bed floor plan).

Why did you remove the attractive neutral colored tile?
Were you having issues with the tiles?
I am embarking on the floor because I am tired of trying to keep that darn carpet clean.
My coach is OAK cabinetry and I am afraid the imatation wood laminate floor will be too much wood look....
Also considering cork and marble look vinyl tiles....
Any heads up here?
Thanks

There is also laminate flooring that has an tile look to it. See it at Home Depot. I'm sure that there are other suppliers of this product. I'm thinking of this for my (house) ktchen and entry way.

Larry,
Like you our main reason to go with the Pergo flooring was it was
easier to keep clean. When had spent the previous 2 winters in
Florida and with all the sand in the carpet. Removing the tile was
more out of connivence as it made it easier to do install the Pergo
flooring. Never had any problems with the ceramic tile, it was in the
coach for 8 years. I would install it again under the right design.
When you put the new wood flooring in don't go cheap! The Pergo came
with the foam backing already installed and looked and felt like a
real wood floor. There are other brands that are similar too! Beware
of the stuff that looks like the finish was printed on the surface and
is real smooth.
There are several rules you should follow when putting tile in an RV.
I installed it right over the original floor as it was in good shape.
I just took some thinset and filled in any rough spots. I would avoid
putting and underlayment down as it raises the tile too much. If you
have to use underlayment find the thinest you can find, I wouldn't go
more than 3/16" at most, 1/8" if you can find it. . Be sure to glue
and screw or staple.
First always use a good quality latex thinset tile adhesive. I would
avoid the premixed and buy the bag only. I had to beat the tile off
the floor, it had stuck very well.
Never install the tile so it is touching the baseboard or modules.
Alway leave about 1/4" gap around edges because of the coach does
flex. You can buy a colored silicone to finish off the outside edges.
If you have to cut the tile be sure to use a small round file to
relieve the inside corner to prevent a crack.
As for grout I recommend the premixed color of your choice, but do not
use it around the outside edge.
I don't like vinyl as I think it gets damaged too easily and you can/t
really fix it.

I installed it right over the original floor as it was in good shape.

My PO, put a raised floor over the original. As with all his other projects, he didn't do this one right either.
where the ply butts together in the hallway, there is no support underneath so I have flex. This was hidden under the carpet.
Also, there was a spot that he ran out of plywood so he used prices cut from a cardboard box to fill in.

I just took some thinset and filled in any rough spots. I would avoid putting and underlayment down as it raises the tile too much.

I really like the way your tile looked, but I have become weight conscious when it comes to the GMC.
My interior is OAK so I need to stay away from a wood grained flooring. Thats just me, I have a phobia to a lot of wood surfaces.
=========================================
I don't like vinyl as I think it gets damaged too easily and you can/t really fix it.

I think you might be looking at this wrong. The vinyl tile gives you an excellant tough surface for wear and tear, its cheap and is much easier to replace if need be.
My goal is just to get that dirty carpet out and try to fix the problems the PO created as I have for everything else he had done. ( Every project has had his touch and generally a big job to fix what he did wrong. )
As with the carpet, he put a nice heavy carpet in, it just cannot be cleaned. I have tried a couple times but this last time it just would not clean up.
The Carpet HAS TO GO ! !
I also have a full sized bed ( guess who put that mess in ), that when you try to open it, it tears up the window screens and walls. You have to LITERALLY take it APART to get at the water pump so I have not used the water system for a couple years now.
I am wanting to go with the old opposing seats, which was the original design, and tile the floor there too.
I am a BIG BELEIVER in throw rugs. when they need cleaning, you take em outside and hose em down. If they don't come clean, go to target and get a new one. This wall to wall stuff was a BAAAAD IDEA.
