My wife and I were looking at RV's today (payback for accompanying her to Macy's)
In the back was all original Eleganza.
RV guy said the PO did a lot of work on the drive train and then was unable to continue and they hauled it away for him.
He said he'll take $500- I think he might go lower.
I spent about five minutes taking pictures and this is all I know about the coach.
The inside is disassembled. It looks all original except maybe the seats and cushions were redone at some point.
The coach matches the story from the dealer. The tires look unused, some have whiskers, but they are badly cracked.
The top of the engine is coated in dust but the side looks freshly painted, like it could be a recent rebuild.
Likewise there was evidence of fresh brake lines and the air bags don't appear to have much use.

Wow every time I see coaches sitting like this I remember what was going thru my mind when I found mine sitting. And how I thought I was so clever to talk the owner down to a thousand from four thousand. ha ha ha <smack>
Virgina Beach. Salt. First thing I would do would be get under it (no small task!) and check the frame. Check it WELL . If you find a bad frame walk. Other than that its a good candidate for dumping an initial 6 to 8 grand just to get it on the road: Tires, brakes, windshields (these are cloudy around the edges and will probably fail inspection), exhaust, gas line refurbish (theres over 50 complex feet of rubber gas lines you have to replace), and engine re-awaken. Assuming the drive train was rebuilt of course. . . If not well, add $2500 minimum. THEN theres the interior. 5k done right. And you will want paint, although that can wait, but you will eventually if you keep and use the coach. So thats another 4k.
At this point, all I can say is, if you are going to drop that kind of change, AND YOU WILL, you are MUCH BETTER OFF buying a coach already gone thru, for the same money. And there are hundreds out there right now, really nice coaches in good shape, for between 8 and 12k
BUT if you havd a couple years and want the challenge of the re-build, and sweat, and frustration, and learning all the details - go for it ! We'll be here !

If you are in Virgina, registar as an antique vehicle. Equals some minor restrictions, but no annual inspections. One time fee. ($50).

Run, don't walk, away from a coach that has been sitting.
We love our coach, that had sat for many years. but it has taken us five
years and $40,000 to get it into good enough shape to start fixing the
cosmetic stuff like upholstery and paint.

Yeah, it's too expensive, too discouraging and it'll never work out.
Best thing to do is cut it up for parts. I'd do it myself but i am still trying to get rid of the last GMC i cut up for parts.
OK, seriously, that sort of pessimism serves no one.
Sure, dollar for dollar one would be better off buying something that is rolling with a lot of fresh upgrades.
But when you do that you are just taking advantage of someone elses hard work and investment in the down economy.
Meanwhile, it becomes tempting to part out a coach like this and take another TZE off the road.
But this might be a real gem. I have know idea what the story is. It appears the guy focused on the running gear first. Maybe he did a really good job.
Maybe every moving part has been refreshed.
Not everybody has $15,000 to spend on a coach. But a lot of people have $500 and some time.
We should not be advising people to just run away from these projects but rather, helping to find the right guy and developing a right strategy to return this coach to viability.
My revcon cost $2500. It runs great (as soon as I put the engine back together) and all the systems works.
I would not take it across the country but it will serve my family well for local trips for the next few years while i work through some issues one project at a time.
Who knows how much i will eventually spend but I never would have been able to free that amount up in one lump sum.

I'm with Dave on this one (sort of). Even though I bought a runner with lots of (mostly interior and cosmetic) upgrades, I think the right person would do well to resurrect this coach. As long as the frame is good, the rest would just take time, a lot of work, and a ton of money. But, if I had started out with a $500.00 coach, I would have had a lot more money for upgrades to get to the $$$ level I am at now. A person with ambition, patience, and the necessary skills could bring this one back to life on a reasonable budget...reasonable being the widely accepted figure for a reliable coach of $20,000 - $30,000.
On the other hand, even though I have spent an average of two weekends per month (and a lot of cash) working on my coach, I have been able to use it almost every month for the past two years.
I just hate to see another one get parted out.

Just depends on what the new owner wants.
If someone is looking for a "core" to do a major rebuild (off-frame or something close) why spend the money on a good rolling coach? It also saves a coach from being scrapped.
On the other hand, if the new owner wants to use this coach anytime soon, there are MUCH better buys elsewhere. For example: There is what appears to be a super nice coach on ebay right now. While I am just looking at the pictures and the write-up, it is a steal at $20,000.

There are "lots" of other coaches listed on craigslist right now... most with "optimistic" prices but there are some that look like good buys. One of the best examples is "The Bug" -- an ex-Palm Beach for sale in Oregon... it just seems to in between listings right now. A good rolling coach last listed for $7,000.00.
