We just returned from a 1600 mile trip to St. Augustine Fl, Anderson, S.C. and Chattahoochee, Fl.
Overall a real nice drive. Temps were in the high 90's but the A/C kept us comfortable.
Having set the timing at 10 BTDC and 900 RPM before leaving I was a little concerned that it was too much and I kept listening for pings. I never heard anything even when climbing some of the bigger hills in North Ga and S.C.
Starting was something else though. Before I set the timing, the engine would start on the first turn. Now it seems to take several turns to catch.
Had one instance of what I believe was vapor lock just South of Tampa, it quit, like running out of gas, I turned on the Electric pump and it started and ran fine, I turned off the Electric shortly after and we continued our trip without further problem.
The Cruise Control also stopped working. I checked the fuse and it is ok. Will have to look into it further.
We have been averaging 7.9 mpg prior to this trip. I do not have the final numbers yet but it looks like we picked up a little more than 1 mpg as a result of resetting the timing.
I intend on resetting the timing again, this time according to the book, 8 BTDC at 1100 RPM.

Do not retard the timing if there is no sign of preignition.
Instead bump it to where you find the preignition, then back off.
Timing mark in a standard harmonic balance along with the tin marker
is only a guide.
Marketing people want the advanced timing, while the emission people
want the low.
The people at the test tracks in Arizona send back data to the main
office where they argue as to what they should print in the book.

Hi Dan,
I do not run the Onan on the road, just use the Dash air. We do not have a curtain behind us but I do have two 6 inch fans (mounted in front of the dash outlets) that help distribute the cold air. Without the helper fans we would not be comfortable. This I guess, because the OEM blower coupled with the crazy duct system does not move enuf air.
I am really surprised at how cold the air gets using Duracool. Using the temp gun, shooting the very back of the outlet I get temps down to 28. It heats rapidly to the high 40's by the time that air exits the outlet. I do have to hold the gun right next to the outlet to get those temps but it surprises me because the temps are below freezing, yet the system does not freeze up.
I'm happy with the overall performance, trusting that she will continue.

Well Jim, currently it is at 10, while setting it we did try 12 but she did not seem to run as well there.
If it would start quicker where it is now I would leave it alone, guess it is time to search for the best "spot"
One thing I did not mention, she runs a little warmer now too. Just above the bug rather than just below, outside air temp in the very high 90's.
